I get pics all the time. I see iPhones snapping at lights quite often. Just have your truck insured for current state and relax.

Thanks for the advice. Here is a (horrible) pic that I snapped after installing the lift and topper.

That's it! The Softtopper. When I had mine (truck was stock also) people were always checking it out, parking lots, stop lights you name it. I got a hard canopy now and my Tacoma never turns a head(now with ARB and winch and OME).

I had a Bestop on my 2011 tacoma and never got strange attention... I'd be freaked out if my neighbor told me that about my current vehicle.

THIS! When I had my bestop on, I'd get lots of strange attention. Once on a trip to the beach with my friends, the man selling me my permit talked to me for a good 10 minutes (holding up the line) about how it worked and where to get it. Another time I took a nap in my truck (was waiting for someone) and some lady knocked on the window to ask me about it. People can be invasive haha.

Never buy a flippac and air it out in your driveway or show it to someone in a parking lot. The looky loos come out from all over. Unfortunately, I like to air mine out whenever I can, so I am used to people slowing down to look at it.

I'd suggest getting used to it, even better embrace the attention, because its not going to go away any time soon. The problem stems from the fact that you've made a reality of what happens to be many people's fantasy. They see your rig and wonder "Wow, how'd he do it? Is it comfortable? Maybe if I save up I can make one too? Wonder where that rig has been? Where is he headed? Who has he met along the way?"

On a trip back in 2006 my 4Runner was parked in a lot getting some groceries to stock up the fridge before heading up to the next camp and paragliding site in Oregon. When I came out there were two full minivans of family clustered around my truck. They huddled around my rig for a good while and I just stood off in the distance and let them wonder for a bit because it was actually interesting to see what they were up to. During that time no one even touched my truck, but a number of photos were taken.

When I finally came back to my truck a woman in the group actually had a short list of questions to ask me. After this I started making business sized cards with answers to some of the more routine questions. And when I go out on tour (bike or vehicle) I like to carry a small box of these which explain what I'm up to and invite curious people to follow my journey. Have some fun with it!

Unfortunately Tacomas have a lot parts that thieves like to grab- especially tailgates and catalytic converters. Both are easily removed and flipped for cash. You can add a tailgate lock or do the hose clamp mod for the tailgate but the catalytic converter is harder to secure without one of those high dollar mesh things. TRD wheels are also popular with thieves.

Thieves don't hang around with cameras, they're the ones that the neighbor didn't see because he's not out working in his yard at Oh'Dark-Thrity. :)

Ive have seen people take pics of my truck all the time, but it got bad in December when I got into the Christmas spirit with my Mule Deer antlers and a red nose, when those were on people would pose in front of my truck to take pictures. It just made me laugh. But as stated above, the thieves are gonna be the ones no one sees...

I have to admit that I’m guilty of the slow drive-by while sticking a camera out the window.

The result of this drive-by in Jackson Hole was a not-so-friendly exchange with a shirtless guy holding back a couple of pit-bulls.

My truck has also been the subject of lookie-loos with cameras. Not long ago I came out of a Chinese buffet type restaurant to find the entire kitchen staff taking pictures of the Tacoma. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. As others have said, the people you need to be concerned about are not the ones your neighbor has spotted. By the way, good looking rig ya got there. We’ve got similar taste.
