Paul at Equipt 1 sells the Front Runner racks. I have one on my 99 100 series and LOVE IT.. I just put my 1800 on top. Give him a call he's awsome to deal with. :victory:

Update

It has been way too long since posting here and I like the variability of feedback I get here. Anyways, to catch you up to speed:

1. I am going to Alaska via ALCAN highway and returning via Alaska Maritime Highway on or about the end of May and I plan to be gone for about 6 weeks.

2. Over the past year I have been building up the truck from stock to what you see now.

3. I still have a few odds and ends to put together but here is what I have so far.

- OME Heavy lift at all 4 corners
- BFG KO 285 "E" Load rated
- Hella 4000 Euro Beam lights
- ARB OBA Compressor
- Mule Expedition Rack with tire mount plate
- MetalTech Sliders (which I know I won't need but have already found very useful)

Everything so far works flawlessly and soon I'll be taking a short trip fully laden to see what sort of gas mileage I can muster from the old boy. So far I am sitting at about 12MPG. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

If you had read my post earlier, there were a lot of "gizmos" I thought looked cool but then I grew up and realized what I needed versus wanted.

On the trip I plan to do a little of everything from fishing and canoeing to backpacking and sight-seeing. I was going to do a bit of wheeling, but at the recommendation that I don't go off by myself by many locals I think I'll hold off on that. I don't have a winch or mud tires. I think I'll take the safer route.

The rack

One thing I am disappointed about and maybe even leery of is the roof rack.

I had the tire mounted up there for a wheeling trip and with the way it was oriented on the rack, it bounced back and forth between the bars. The bars of the rack cross laterally and are about 4 inches wide, but very thin. When I tightened the tire, it pulled the bar it was mounted to up causing it to become uneven when compared to the rest of the bars.

This resulted in the tire repeatedly rocking back and forth essentially separating the bar from the rack itself. The cross bar hasn't completely separated from the rack, but definitely weakened. Anyways, I'm scratching my head trying to figure out a solution to the problem. I think I may remove the mount and redo it to where it spans across tow of the bars, or have my shop guy reinforce the rack somehow.

I don't think the rack is "designed" to mount a tire up there, but on any other rack I have seen this is often done anyways with no trouble that I have heard.
