I have an generator like this to use propane on that kind of dual burner stove. It is just a tube with a valve that screws onto the canister. The far end has a small orifice, and sticks into the same opening as the white gas generator. There is a small spring on the valve that hooks onto the stove body and helps hold it in place.

I still have the gas tank and generator, so could switch between the two at will. It burns hotter with white gas, but propane is easier to use (no spilling, no pumping). Since I don't use white gas for anything else, it is simpler to have a propane canister or two around, rather than a tank of 4 yr old gas.
As your reading showed you, the second burner just uses the fuel air mixture bled off the first. So it isn't going to be as hot as the primary. I don't recall how well my 2nd burner worked with propane, but I wouldn't be surprised if was weak, especially if the canister is nearly empty or cold.
