Converting LR3 tail lights to LR4 tail lights

Has anyone with an LR3 converted their tail lights to the updated look of the LR4 tail lights? If so di you buy this:

Seems a bit pricey and not sure how necessary it actually is. I realize there would be some adaptation but not sure $200 wiring kit is the only
way to go about it.

Any feedback would be appreciated before I decide to drop $200 on the wire kit.

Thanks in advance.

I've heard they're plug-and-play. Not sure why you would want to though. LR4 was an improvement in aesthetics except for those hideous altezza piece of ******** rear lights. If anything LR4 owners should be asking to fit LR3 rear lights.

I'd suggest doing some searches over on D3.uk, that's where I get most of my info for aesthetic things-those guys have done it all.

There is a video on YouTube that shows you how. You have to wire in a resistor or capacitor, don't remember....

L322 rear are arguably even worse. Some designer at LR looked at the 1998 Lexus IS 300, aka. the worst piece of crap Lexus ever, and thought "damn those look GREAT, I'll just copy them". It just kills me. The L322 rear lines are sharp and regal, and then your eyes land on those damn lights. It's unbearable. What happened?

Someone on the landroverforums did it, and explained how, I'd check there. Plug and play except you will need to add ballast to the wires since the LED's draw less. Last I heard he was selling them and going back to the old lamps.

I personally like them on the D4, but not at all on a D3. To each his own.

Brake lights are wired to transmission so this is why it's imperative to provide a load similar to what the LR3 incandescent bulb creates.

Haha. That guy on ebay must be making a killing off of idiots willing to pay $200 for ~$15 worth of wire, resistors, and connectors.

The D4 lights are plug and play, you will just need to crimp some of these between the turn signal feed and ground:

$5. You're welcome.

I agree with the earlier comments about the 2010-2013 chrome lights, but for some reason the 2014+ blacked out ones speak to me. I think it really just depends on the color of your LR3.

Alternatively, I've seen these pop up and I think they look pretty killer and are cheaper than a set of OEM LR4 lights:

Looks like Optimus prime's *** cheeks.

Ok I get it, they're copying the new RR. However, lamp assemblies are something you don't want aftermarket. Optical engineering is no trivial task which china shops don't have the focus, expertise, or investment to execute. Their only focus is to mold some plastic that looks "cool" to sell as many as possible. As long as it lights up it must be good enough.
