Cool and simple tools...

Based on this thread: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49312&highlight=bead

I built one of these last weekend. Took me about an hour, not counting the oven time to get it to 500 degrees so I could paint it. The base is out of 3/8" plate, the bead plate is 1/4" x 2" bent to a 15" radius in my 20 ton press.

Right now, it will bolt to the bottom of my Hi-Lift jack, but i plan to make another tool so I can use it with the HL jack handle also.

My nephew had one of these that I used in Utah two weeks ago. Great for clearing a standing room area for cooking or a tent space.

The tines are adjustable for width and its not too big to haul around. Found at Lowes.

I really like this thread I hope it catches on.... :lurk:

I'll bite- unhappy with the flimsey extendable awning poles from wally world and the like.

I use extending paint poles 2' OD with an inner 1.5" hex pole, the twisted end goes through my grommet holes in the tarp.

The pole has a very positive click positioning

We use a couple of these as well. But we use them for setting up little tarp extensions for our Campinglab awning.

I have a 4lb sledge that I love, because I use 12" lag screws for awning stakes. Then I use my cheap-o crescent wrench to take them out.

I also love my Leatherman, but that's not really in the spirit of the simple tools thing.

So the other thing I really love is a piezo-electric sparker I got out of an old motor home. There's no fuel in it like a wand lighter, it's just a sparker. It's great for lighting camp stoves: no worries about matches, or singeing fingers. Since you can't find them any more, just don't throw away your next wand lighter.

You can still get the small piezo sparkers.

I use one from a full size LP grill, just pull the wire off that went to the end on the grill.

I zap myself once in a while:snorkel: But some tape around the middle would fix that:)

I always carry this:

Super simple and I use it three or four times a week.

I also like:

Not as cool at the one from aircraft supply (which I may have to buy now) but easy to pack.

(both of these can be had from leevalley.com)

Monele, those 2, and the one from a/c supply, would be GREAT for work!(I'm a service tech)....

Anyway, simple tools.... I keep some matchlight in a ziplock, in the truck....
TP(personal vehicles, AND service truck)
Wipes(same)
screwdrivers
AND a few modded drivers(nice to see others do the same)

Oh yeah, and a demolition hammer....GREAT tool in the woods...

Never without it

This Fulton Wrecker Bar (Fulton TW24WB. 24" Wrecker Bar - shown) also comes in other various lengths. It's a tool that serves many uses. To many stories to list, It will do just about anything (safely) as long as you supply the muscle. Its part of my tool & recovery inventory.

I found a handmade re bar fire poker when I moved in to my house. It looks similar to this.

I always bring it camping and it probably gets more use than any other tool that I own.

I have been using an empty wand lighter with my propane stove for a few years now.
