Problems along the way included a broken wheel carrier and a brake
caliper failure. Both were fixed with the help of locals.

Greetings 4cruzer! I started reading your trip-blog and thought "Some of this sure sounds familiar". I got to the part about the lost paddle and realized you're talking about my buddy James from Santa Cruz, and that this is the same trip he told me about -- just from a different perspective.

I've got to say, I have a soft spot for driving Suburbans through Central America. You can go a lot of places with two-wheel drive, low tire pressure, and a locking diff. So I was grinning reading about your trip and looking at all the photos, the kayaks, the Dorados, the day-to-day life, events, and occasional mishaps. BTW: I can't believe you made it through the Alta Verapaz area with no brakes! Sounds like you guys had a blast, thanks for sharing!

For such a big place, it sure is a small world.

Linus, you get the new rig yet? I'd even break my 'don't go to hollister' rule if you wanna go test her out!
Purple we were stagnant when we liked a place and/ or the waves or fishing was great. If we didn't like a spot, it'd be a one nighter, but we stayed 10-12 days in one spot in MEX.. Just has to feel right. No schedules...
Back to work so I can do something similar again!
