MY BIL was a fire chief and the ambulances were all 7.3's. They couldn't keep transmissions in them with the abuse and with the torque of the Powerstroke.

I have owned several former ambulances with 7.3's. They certainly take varying levels of abuse, but I have yet to have any transmission issues whatsoever. Rigs from 70k miles to 200k miles...

4R100 needs an upgraded tranny cooler. I swapped in a 6.0 TC. It is 3x as big as the dinky cooler that came with my 7.3. 4R100 is stout if cooled properly.
