Sorry guys,

OK, here's some picture of the cross member replacement with a volvo x member. A you can see, not that i have mentioned, it took considerable modification to get the volvo one to fit.

The oversize fish plates are to compensate for the 4.5 mm that we are all so familiar with. It was adjacent to this point that the chassis tried to break in half. All bolts were upgraded to T16 caterpillar.
I must also apologise for the poor quality images, the samsung phone isn't the best.

Thanks Engineer

The fish plate, is it just 3 bits of plate welded together? I guess this is what is meant by plating the area to reinforce it.

cheers

Michael

I know it looks rough and ready, and I did have a few arguements about welding on the transitional stress points, but we were in a hurry, and we just way overspecced to get it done. Yes the supports are welded to the fish plates.
It has done approx 120k (about 54000 of that on Cape York) with no failure so far, and even more interesting to note, it hasn't transferred the issue elsewhere. They are both thoroughly inspected by 2 experienced/Qualified persons every 5k (on hoist while waiting for oil to drain).

Anyone else find cracks?
As soon as the weather co-operates I'll be checking mine. I plan to use the digatal camera attached to the laptop for remote viewing. If I can find some locally, I'll follow up by dye checking any suspicious areas.
