Crested Bute to Aspen-Pearl Pass

Has anyone driven this route/pass in early August? I'm headed to Aspen in my Tacoma Pro and have never driven on this pass. I am considering driving from Crested Butte over the pass to Aspen. I know the road is often closed due to snow covering the trail. Does anyone know how to find out if it is open a day or two before I get there?

I was gonna say there is a ranger station in downtown Aspen. If you get a chance that area offers some of the best hiking you will ever find in the maroon bells.

I was hoping to find someone who has been over Pearl Pass and knows for sure who to contact for conditions. I will check with the Rangers station. I think there is one in Carbondale.

UPDATE: The Aspen Parks Ranger said he thinks Pearl Pass should be open by now. He also suggested: http://bushducks.com/ just like samureye suggested.

I live in Crested Butte and I can say that passes between here and Aspen will definitely be open for your trip. Taylor Pass is already open and It sounds like Pearl will be opening soon.
Your truck will have no problem with the trail, but sliders might be a good idea in a spot or two. It's an awesome trail, enjoy!
