cricket from cricket trailers making a in bed camper

I'm not sure who the target demographic is for this.
Not near the usability of a pop-up or hard side and a bit more useable than a regular topper.

I really liked their Cricket for it's lightweight, space efficient, go anywhere approach with practically any vehicle towing it.
The Firefly has barely any of that utility translated over to the camper.

The Marine Corps had a nice way of putting it..."Good initiative, bad judgement" (then usually followed by something like Now clean this $hit pile up before anyone see's it)

Prototype

I'll also add that the I wasn't the least bit surprised when I saw the pics of the Firefly, here is the earlier prototype

...sorry, couldn't help myself

It seems like more of a design study than an actual product. Judging by the way it sits in the Tacoma bed, I doubt the designer has ever seen the bed of a pickup truck, none the less even actually measured one.

Gotta admit, it does look cool just chilling in the middle of the desert by itself...

Looks like more of a base camp idea. Haul it to where you're going, drop it off, and explore from there. Or maybe if you had some property in the middle of nowhere and could leave it there for an extended period of time. Definitely not anything I'd want to haul around like a truck camper.

That is hilarious. Thanks TacoFWC for the good laugh.

It certainly is not my cup of tea. Doesn't seem practical for my use. I'm sorry to say it looks goofy, too.

For the sake being fair, the in bed camper is probably just a prototype and why its not on their website. I got the link via google. I will say that the trailer is pretty awesome with all sorts of good ideas. I got to go inside of it when it was parked/demo at a local REI.

Here is a video tour of it:

The Cricket trailer has had good reviews and I would think most share a favorable view of what it is. Yes I'd think this is a prototype but if they are watching places like this then the company will rethink their design. Time will tell. An off road Cricket was in the works as well.

Looks like it is too short in length to sleep in? Seems like it would be hard to even get up to dress since there is not any floor space at the end of the bed either. The way the beds fold up in sections is a good detail - but the lack of storage under them would be an issue.

I like the design of the "legs" actually - nice to have the space between them and the sides of the truck and should be sturdy with the additional width.

All in all - I think its a bit to much "multi-purpose" of a design - ends up being not great for anything...
