Registration for Cruise Moab 2011 is now open.

This is an annual, not-for-profit, Land Cruiser centric (but other Toyotas welcome too) event in Moab, UT, USA hosted by the Rising Sun 4x4 Club and the Wasatch Cruisers.

Expedition folks may be interested in the fact that TWO overnight runs are being offered this year. Kokopelli Trail and a mostly new San Rafael Swell run.

3 days of organized trail runs, a dinner, a big raffle, a Vendor Night, big fun.

The SR Swell overnighter will be exploring some areas of the southern Swell from our Lone Warrior base camp. Lucky Strike, Tomisch Butte and Hidden Splendor mining areas, Temple Mountain, Goblin Valley, etc

Just registered and signed up for the SR Swell trip also. Will I be able to take my trailer on this or should I put my RTT on the FJ?

I've done the overnighter the last two years. If they run the Devils Back Bone (?) you may find it difficult to get a trailer up the final set of steps....the rest of the trail isn't to difficult.

Good luck and have fun!

So, I am all signed up.... Haven't told the wife yet... oops. But she will not be going this year (we have a new little one due in July). This will be my first time to Moab. What is the deal with dogs? I was planning to bring my German Shepherd so my wife would not have to take care of her and our daughter while I am away. She is super mellow, never barks, and loves every one. Not a mean bone in her. I saw that Slickrock has some bans on "aggresive" breeds.

No aggressive breeds allowed in the park at any time! Included, but not limited to Pit bulls, rottweilers, doberman pincers, mastiffs or any similar breed.

While they dont specifically list Shepherds... they do leave it up to interpretation. I am planning on calling and asking them direct. But, I also read somewhere that dogs were now banned in parts of the Moab area. I believe it was in regards to this years Swell run. But, I also saw dogs were allowed on last years Swell run. So, I was hoping some one could clarify. Thanks!

I like your style :D

Dogs are good to go. So long as they are kept on leash and are ok around people and other dogs it shouldn't be an issue at all. We've had our German Shepherd at Slickrock every year, no issues.

No dog bans on the CM Swell run, so long as your beast is ok around others he/she will be right at home.

Sweet! Thanks for the quick response!

Edit: I just found the note i had seen about Dogs. It was in regards to the Elephant Hill run.

Because this trail is in a National Park, NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED. This means you and your vehicle will not be admitted to Canyonlands Nat'l Park if you have a dog in it, even if you promise to keep the dog inside the vehicle the entire day. If you are bringing a dog to Moab, you probably don't want to sign up for this trail unless you have made arrangements for your dog to stay elsewhere (and remember, this is a very long day). This is a U.S. National Parks rule, and we cannot make exceptions for anyone.

I guess it is only specific to Canyonlands:

In case for any one else...

Thanks Kurt, I will keep an eye out for the updates. I haven't told the wife yet either, probably should let the boss know also. The NP Service doesn't allow dogs in the back country.

Kurt, looks like a great itinerary again this year. Wish I was going again but I'll be back at CM HQ making sure everything is going smoothly.

For everyone on the Swell overnighter you will not be disappointed. Kurt does a great job.

Yes, dogs are fine everywhere during Cruise Moab except Elephant Hill per National Park regs. They will turn you back. Please keep them on a leash at Slick Rock Campground and use the approved Doggy area for potty times.

Dog owners and Elephant Hill. There is a kennel in town.

In past years, Elephant Hill participants have been successful leaving a beloved pet at Karen's Canine Campground for the day.

The only challenge is that Elephant Hill is so far out of town, getting back in time to pick up the dog can be tough. You may want to have a backup plan where someone else can pickup your pet if he or she doesn't hear from you by a certain time.
