Damage on Porcupine? Isn't that trail rated just a 4 or 5? What did you do? 3rd year there for me and it's one on my list for this year that I haven't run before.

Yeah, I guess it was bad karma that day. I do think I was somewhat outmatched by the other rigs on the trail that day (mostly '80s with bigger tires) which made it more stressful for me. I was also dealing with somewhat of a suspension problem (lean to the right; now fixed) that made the off-camber situations somewhat scary and the 31 inch tires (they were pretty old and they were fractured/cracked on the sidewalls by the end of the ride). The damage was mainly caused by slipping to the right into the side of the mountain while climbing.

Gotcha - thx. I know what you mean about being outmatched. I'm running an OME 2-3" lift on 33's and feel the same way. Seems 'most' 80's running Moab are now on 4" lifts and 35" tires! Feel very inadequate by comparison. Made it much harder to run Kane Creek that way - especially thru the gatekeeper at the start. Thank god Robbie (powderpig) was the trail leader that day. He was fantastic, as are all the trail leaders I've had the two years I've attended. It's a great event.

Do you think the sliders you now have would have saved you from the rocker panel damage?

It's coming up. I'm just trying to get the last few projects done before the 15 hour road trip to cruise Moab. My trailer lid is all finished, the new axle is installed along with the trailer brake controller and a new iPhone comparable stereo.

porcupine can be a bit damaging if you take the wrong line on the step climb returning from anxiety point. wish we were going. original plans were to take the 80 as a chase rig and wheel our new baby, 1962 fj40, but alas, it would tap into the rubithon money too much, so no cruise moab. may go out later this year and meet up with some friends tho...need my fix. ;)

Needs to get out more
Ill be there for a night just to lead the Elephant Hill run on Saturday. The remainder of the time I'm going out to the desert to get
-away- from people.
