Cub Kamparoo - Offroad Mods for 12-yr-old Trailer

Please excuse the intrusion but old Cubs never die.
I inherited a late 1980s Cub Supamatic from my brother. Didn't like the canvas so modified it in the style of a Track Trailer TVan with a hard top and rear door /deck. The back got an Oztent to cover the hole.
It rides on 16 inch wheels with 32s to match my Nissan.

More new Roo shots!

We actually had a fair amount of rain on this trip and had to cancel our plans to visit Toroweep because of Tropical Storm Rose. We were hit by one severe thunderstorm storm with high winds and heavy rain in the heart of Monument Valley. We stayed perfectly dry in the Roo and I got to see my first desert flash flood from a cozy perch.

Transalper, I just stumbled across your thread. Thanks for the updates and pictures. The fact that you've had this trailer as long as you have says a lot. I feel that one of these would be a perfect match for my 4cylinder Toyota mini truck. But I have a question for you; "How does it do in the wind? Is it tight, or flappy and noisy?"
I have a Tepui soft shell RTT at the moment and don't really care for it in the wind. For that matter, I'm not really a fan of it overall. My Kodiak Canvas tent is bomber in the wind but I'm sick of sleeping on the ground. The Kamparoo checks all of the boxes for me: lightweight, off the ground sleeping, backroad worthy, and simple.
Since you have owned your camper for so long, could you please give an update on the pluses and minuses of this camper? Thanks in advance for any input you may give.

It has been through some intense rain and wind storms and we stayed perfectly dry. And it is very sturdy. Of course I have tried to make sure not to set it up broadside to prevailing winds, but have always felt safe and sound in the kamparoo.

It is a sturdy and comfy tent on wheels. The only downside? It's a trailer. There are some trails I can't do with the 'roo, it hurts fuel economy, and backing up is a pain.

Pros and cons.

I do not plan to ever get rid of the Kamparoo as long as I have a place to store it during the winter. With that said I recently placed an order for a GFC; sort of a high-speed version of the 'Roo. :)

My dilemma is: do I buy a camper that fits one rig and one rig only, or do I get something to base camp out of that I can use with all my rigs? Pretty sure I can tow it most places that my wife's 4Runner and my stock FJ40 can go, and it's also light enough for my mini truck to tow; albeit, it's not going everywhere the mini can go. Hmmm.... the dilemma.... you did make my decision a lot harder by saying you won't ever get rid of the Kamparoo. Again, that says a lot. Thanks again for replying.

My Kamparoo has more ground clearance than my 80 with 35s. It's as wide as the 80, so it pretty much goes where the Landcruiser goes but at some point, common sense needs to dictate what's prudent and what isn't! I've done some mods to my Roo. The tongue weight is 430# and the total weight is approx 2300# wet. I'm going through a design change so that I can move some of that heavy tongue weight to behind the axle.
