cupboards from your canopy window / windoor

Alu-cab in South Africa makes a few great custom shells. When we rent overland vehicles there, they are all equipped with Alu-cab. Because we're in Monkey / Baboon territory it's a necessity to keep everything locked up. The cupboards on the shell windows are a really easy way to store the everyday items. Kitchen stuff on one side and camp stuff on the other. Here is an example:

Anyone use this method here in North America? I don't see it on non-commercial cab options. The alternative is a chuck box (some great examples on EP already). I was wondering if anyone modded their canopy for cupboards?

thx

I think it is neat. If you scan down a few posts you can see where someone modified theirs to carry tools.

I find flip up windows very useful giving you quick access to common used items. I can't see how people with rear tire swing outs get by without them.

I bought the hardware from EMU in Australia and am about to fit a pair to my Land Rover Discovery.

As I am planning on ditching my trailer, I need to create a full kitchen/set-up when opening up the rear trunk swing out (fold dow table, water usage, 2 burner stove, food access, fridge/freezer, etc...), so decided to put all the tools/gear in the swing-out windows (heavy stuff all the way down, and then hung/organised for lighter stuff), and use the 2 drawers I have for 100% mess gear.

The issue is that with the internal cage coming 1/5th in the way of the rear window...need to figure out how to manage the packaging nicely!

I'm hoping to figure out some hatch windows for my '97 Jeep Cherokee XJ. I've seen kits for Land Rover's and Land Cruisers; but there seems to be no love for the low-rent jeep guys though... If anyone has seen this done on an XJ, let me know.

I have hardware/seals available fir the DIY guy

Do you have a link to any build threads? I think this is a fabulous addition to any rig. I have windoors on my pickup canopy, and one of them has a tool box suspended by yakima tracks on the roof. It takes up too much space in the bed. Thinking something like you've made in an Astro van would be incredibly useful.
