Curious about your thoughts???

Gravelette here's the update on what's happening with the Suburban, Blazer, added to the mix 2005 Excursion and my 1985 SR5 Toyota 4Runner:

The 1991 Suburban has a head gasket problem that needs replaced. Seller, my friend, has not addressed that issue yet. Still waiting on him. The best part of the Suburban is the truck is a last year production square body Suburban, rust-free loaded Silverado 2500 4WD, TBI fuel injection and a 4L80 Overdrive Transmission. 1991 only year with 4L80 overdrive transmission in a 2500 Suburban. All previous 2500 1990 back Suburban's all have a 3 Speed Turbo 400.

In the mean time I have run across a 2005 V10 4WD Lifted Excursion that might fit the wants (Certainly Not Needs)! Yes I know it's GAS and most everyone want's a diesel Excursion however that fact that it's a GAS V10 is what interests me in this Excursion along with it being a 2005 last year of production model. I do not give a schidt about fuel mileage!

No more older diesels for me. I have 3 left all 12 valve Cummins all 3 are 20 + years or older! Way to many problems with the new diesels that seem to crop up at 200K or less miles these days that are expensive to fix and the cost difference for a diesel versus gas no longer justifies a diesel truck unless you are towing heavy loads all the time. The gas engines today are more than up to the task for my wants, need minimal maintenance and are far less expensive to repair/replace when not towing most of the time.

Here are a couple of pictures of the Excursion I found, a couple of pictures of the 1991 2500 4WD Suburban that needs work yet I still like, a pic of the 1974 original paint Blazer that needs restored and a picture of my 1985 SR5 4runner that I FINALLY got back from the paint shop last week.

5 Years there at the body shop for the 4Runner. I figure I just paid for 5 years of storage instead of the paint job which by the way is a FABULOUS ALL APART Base Clear paint job in the original Toyota color. It's now way to nice to turn into a trail rig!

No bad choices here. If only one was independently wealthy the answer would be "All. Yes please!"

Sorry, but there is NO world where a 1995-2000 4 door Tahoe is superior to a 1974 K5 Blazer. None. The Tahoe might be more “practical”, but superior it is not.

More power, better mpg, more critter comforts (cruise/a/c etc) more reliable, quieter, better ride/handling, more GVWR, some actual thought given to crash safety...

And the difference in price will handily cover a SAS with a suspension that actually does things.

Oh for me its a toss up between the Burb and the Excursion, I have always wanted either of these trucks. the EX may have better "critter" comforts then the Burb

EDIT!
I am unfamiliar with the V10 other than I understand its a Triton, does that mean it has all the Triton issues, cause if sooo that would sway me to the Burb with the bad head gasket

Apparently most of the V10 problems were solved by the 2005 model after web research. Just change the spark plugs to the new 1 piece plug if that's not been done and that's about it. Unfortunately the 2005 V10 Excursion did not get the 5 speed automatic transmission like the diesel and you are stuck with the older design 4 speed automatic.

I had a 99 Government 2500 4WD Surburban I bought 5+ years ago for $1,000. 350 automatic vinyl floor mat vinyl seat truck. Sold it in 2025 after using it for 30K miles. Good truck somewhat underpowered.

My daughter currently has a 2004 Yukon XL 8.1. Great truck with lot's of power drives great and will run forever. Her second 2004 Yukon XL. First one we bought used at 200K was a 6.0 and she drove it up to 330K when we sold it 1 1/2 years ago. It has since sold again twice and now has 350K+ miles on it.

I "think" I really want a solid axle leaf spring front-end truck therefore the older Burb, Blazer or Excursion.

I see myself going for the suburban for a practical usable daily. I prefer the barn doors to the excursion hatch personally. Plus for whatever reason the V10 has always given worse mileage than its GM comparables.
The other two are cool, but get old quick for daily use. The back window/tailgate setup just makes practical chores impractical. They would both make admirable topless toys to tow behind the suburban though.

...thank you sir. The C/K of course having way more rugged cool factor, but the GMT400 version of the Blazer (and its Tahoe/4door Tahoe relative) is a better vehicle for all the points you mention.

I think it was Wayne of Wayne's World who said it best about Star Trek, and it applies (and I'm paraphrasing) here: "while it will never be AS recognized as the original, the Next Generation is a much better product"...ish.

Not in the Sheriff Brody/ Chief Hopper universe, no. You are correct and I'm with you.

But in the practicality world they are actually a better vehicle in almost every way except wow factor. Notice, I said splitting the baby.

Right, but it’s still not “superior”. More practical? Absolutely.
