Custom Leatherwork on my 1895M by a fellow Off-roader/ExPo/Rover Owner

A good friend of mine, fellow off-roader, rover-owner, and outdoorsman started up a leather working business a year or so ago. so far he has done wallets, bags, belts, etc etc. I figured I'd ask him to try some leatherwork for one of my long guns. I gave him my .450 for a few days for a test fitting and here is the finished product: a 5 shot shell holder and a matching sling.

Turned out awesome, shells fit perfectly and cheek weld was essentially unaffected. Sling is short and sweet, but still very adjustable using all brass hardware. Shell holder is affixed via hand tied leather cord, so it can be removed pretty easily (just gotta re-lace and re-tie). I debated having a lever wrap done but decided against it in case I send my lever off to Muleman for a loop conversion down the road.

He kept all the templates he made from my stock so he has the ability to make more in the future for me if I decide to snag another 1895 with a straight stock. He hasn't put them on his website yet, but he will probably make them to order if the interest is there.

I'm pretty happy with it and the fresh leather makes my gun-safe have that "new car" smell haha.

Very cool and good looking. I looked at some for my .45-70 1895GBL but the $85.00 to $100.00 was a little high so I bought a belt cartridge holder & sling from Montana Sling. What does he charge for one?

$75 for a cartridge holder, $75 for the sling. custom made to order and well worth the money.

I noticed you held off on the lever wrap, so I thought I'd mention I make my own using upholstery leather scrap and waxed nylon thread. They look good with a little practice, are very durable, and feel good on the hands. The other bonus about using scrap leather is that after it is dampened it conforms tightly around odd angles and you can find a close match to just about any color leather accessories you already have (just bring the sling with you for comparison). You can do your own for less than $5 in 15 minutes if you're so inclined, that way you don't feel bad if you swap the lever out down the road but still have what you want now.

This isn't a very good picture of the lever but hopefully you can at least get an idea. This is the wrap on my Spikehorn, and although you can't see it here, it matches up perfectly with my grandfather's vintage sling. I also made a knife sheath from the same batch of scrap so they all tie in very nicely together... that sheath is towards the top right of the photo.

yeah, it would not be a big deal at all for me to make the lever wrap myself. I can always just call the guy who made the other stuff and he would mail me some scrap pre-stained leather to match for free.
