Custom Soft Top

Can anyone recommend a supplier that can help design and manufacture a quality soft top? I want to develop a soft top that is convertible into very specific uses preferably in California.

Would probably be helpful if you were a little more specific; such as what type of vehicle this would be for?

The top is for a 1966 Ford Bronco being built for expedition use. The top needs to be converible from a semi standard full top with 1/2 doors to a 1/2 cab with 1/2 doors or a bikini top. The material needs to be stronger, more durable, and preferably lighter than a standard "Bestop" material.
Thanks

if you have a bestop one as a reference model, you may be able to go to a custom top shop (like the kind that make tops for hot rods and custom cars) and have them make it out of the heaviest duty material they can get their paws on. May even be able to get an insulated version or other nice-to-have features.

I really appreciate the suggestions. I was looking for a firm or a shop that has experience with vehicle tops. I spoke with a sail maker in Santa Cruz and it became clear after a few minutes they didn't have the experience to design the pattern.

A sailmaker wouldn't have the experience. You would need to speak to someone who has experience in making canvas for boats. Things like bimini tops, dodgers, rail covers, sail covers, privacy/safety panels for lifelines, etc... Two totally different sets of skills. I bet the latter could make what you want if you find the right person.

It looks like you're in NorCal, so a couple people you might try. I've worked with both many times in the boating world with good success but I've never asked them for something like this.
A canvas shop specializing in marine but doing pretty much any sort of soft goods from upholstery to flooring; probably the best in norcal - West Coast Canvas. Ask for Curt Page, he's the owner. You can tell him Don from D'Anna sent you...not sure if that will help anything though! He's got two shops, one in Discovery Bay, and his main shop at Tower Park on HWY 12 (Lodi address, but not even close to the city).

Or in Alameda you might try Hank's Trim Shop just off Park St. They specialize in automotive stuff but do just about everything form custom hotrod work to mundane recovering of seat cushions. It's no longer run by Hank (I think Mario bought it from him several years ago) but they do good work at reasonable prices and usually turn it around pretty quickly to boot. Sorry I don't think they have a website and I don't have my phone handy to look up the number but I'm sure you can find them if you're interested.

custom soft top

Have you looked at http://www.can-back.com/ ? I think they may have just what you are looking for. I just found out about them yesterday. I am wanting one for my '82 Jeep Scrambler. I'am building it for the same purposes that you are building your Bronco. Mine would have to be custom made. At least they make one already for the Bronco's. BTW, I love the old Bronco's. There is also a company that makes a really high quality top ( I've seen these in person ), called http://www.softopper.com/. Give them a look. Hope this helps you.
