Cyberman's Trailer Build

Impressed with the whole build. Then I got to the last image and was most impressed with the fact that you had Tastykakes butterscotch krimpets! You from the Philly area?

I saw you addressed the weight of the rear slide out drawer. I use that system all the time but I generally do not extend it out past 40% of the full length. By using a support leg you are able to extend that out as far as you did. I think it's important to point out to ppl that unless you addressed it like you did it would bend over time due to most of the slide being extended out. I've recently figure out a way to make that system "cascade" in sections. This will allow it to be used in tight places with maximum slide reach.

Any idea of the rolling weight of your trailer?

This is before the rack and tent (add about 200 lbs.). Fully loaded, including the 21 gal. of water.

It is all dependent on weight. I put a leg under that side, because I needed more of a full extension to clear the cooler. The angle steel does have a little flex. The larger slide out handles the weight better, and can extend 60% without a leg. A better design uses 1" tubing instead of angle. The false floor would need to be higher to accommodate for the additional rise in the upper bearings.

An update to the post. I got a RTT for Christmas, and recently got the annex as well.

I made a mount for the propane tank, and a tray and cover for the generator.

Lots of cool things implemented in your build! Love the slides, pull outs and shower on the door.

I am curious about the RTT rack. What size tubing did you use for the uprights? Can you provide some pics of the tent support setup and how you attached the scissor-jack to the tent base? I had wondered about this type of lifting setup in the past, but wasn't sure how quick/slow the platform would raise lift.... Are you pretty happy with the efficiency? Does the platform stay level as you crank it up? Guess you could you use a cordless impact driver instead if you had one? Anything about how you did this that you would change?

Looks like you are ready for spring/summer! Enjoy your cool toy!

Cheers!

The rack uprights are 1 1/4" x 1/8" wall square tubing that is grooved to fit inside 1 1/2" x 1/8" wall square tubing. The rack itself is made with 1" tubing. I decided to attach 1 1/2" "caps" to the rack, so that when it is stowed, the inner tubing not exposed to the elements (it is bare, coated with grease). There is a pin in each upright, with two holes for deployed/stowed. It should be noted that the uprights need to be properly leveled to minimize binding. I used a post level designed for planting fence posts.

The jack is bolted to the lid, using neoprene washers to keep the lid waterproof, and is bolted to a plate on the rack. Operating the jack is harder in the beginning, but gets very easy quickly. I can fully deploy the rack by hand in about 2 minutes, but I can also use either a drill or impact wrench if I want it to go faster. I originally looked at an electric jack, but wanted an easy way to go manual if needed.
The rack raises evenly, even with the tent mounted towards the driver side edge to accommodate the annex. I can't think of anything I would change on this setup.

I've been trying to play around with the trailer as much as possible at home, so that I can work out as many bugs as I can. That way I can enjoy it even more.

It's been a while since I posted here, and thought I would update the build. Last year, the pandemic brought on plenty of time for projects, some were upgrades to the trailer. A while ago, I changed out the very inefficient HF solar panels for a 100W panel and new controller. I also updated the control box to include two watt meters, to measure power generation and consumption.

I originally added a 1000W inverter, but never used it. I removed it, and in its place installed a power converter/charger. Now I can take advantage of shore power.

I also extended power to the tent, and added LED lighting to the underside and inside. The inside lights are dimmable, from a box that also has USB and 12V charging ports.

With the weather turning colder, I also built a heater from a chinese diesel parking heater. I made it possible to remove in the warmer months.
