After wanting to add an air compressor for several years but not being really happy with electric options out there I finally bit the bullet and got a junkyard York. With the help of CAD and my buddies 3d printer I am prototyping the mounting brackets to figure out the least invasive way to add it. So far I am very happy with what I have. Much more room than I was expecting and less modifying than i was anticipating. The bottom bracket/belt tensioner combo is still getting drawn up. The compressor runs off a v-belt taking power off the alternator pulley. I havent decided yet whether to buy a pulley off the internet with both serp and v-belt grooves or if I will just add a v pulley to a stock alternator pulley.
This should keep everything as stock and simple as possible. Plumbing and standard compressor related parts will be easy to add, there are dozens of write ups out there for that. The hardest part is shoving another part into an already cramped engine bay.

Nice! Can you swap the V belt pulley for a serp pulley and run a longer belt?

you could do that. there are serp pulleys for the york compressors. cheapest ive seen is around 70. but you would have to make sure the new angles of the belt gave enough traction to each pulley so nothing slips. Looking at it Where I have the compressor positioned it looks like it wouldn't make the tensioner very useful. The Tensioner sits almost right in between the new compressor and the alt.
You could definitely make it work, but like the way i'm doing it you would have to fiddle a bit to get it to go. With a v-belt you need a new pulley on the alt and some form of a tensioner. With a serp belt the mount bracket can be simpler but the stock tensioner might not be enough.

Alright, so it's been a while since I last posted about this project. Come quite a bit since then. I now have the compressor installed and wired up as well as plumbed with a 2.5 gal tank taken off a Range Rover P38. Have been using it for about a month with the only problem being a pinhole leak in one hose that is close to the exhaust. This will get replaced at some point with a nice braided SS PTFE line. I'm in no real hurry to do this as the compressor can more than keep up with the leak. I need to add a inline oil filter as even after plugging up a hole inside the compressor that allows oil up from the sump up into the cylinders there is still more oil coming through than I would like.

Kilby Serp/v pulley installed. For Land Rover alternators you will need to either turn down the diameter of the back of the pulley for the 130A alternators so that it fits into the recess, or as in my case with the higher rated RR 150A alts machine it flush so that there is enough treads exposed to hold the nut safely. If that doesn't make sense let me know and I can post pictures of the different pulleys and alt cases.

I failed to get any good pics of the bracket as I was making it. If I ever pull it off to clean it up and hit it with some paint I will take some more.
