Day One...not that this is going to go fast, or anything

eBay is not always the cheapest when it comes to these devices. I know, because I spent quite a bit of time scouring the net for MUT III readers.
There are also different "options" with these clones. The best one I found had the reprogramming circuitry built into the main board, not the software on a CF card (which some do and some don't have).

Have a look though the offerings on AliExpress (kind of the Chinese version of eBay)
You may find a better option there.

The best source for informed discussion on automotive diagnostic software, from people that actually use it, is http://mhhauto.com

aliexpress and dhgate are great sources for electronics. I've bought loads of LEDS, etc, from them.

Agreed with eBay not always being the best choice, but in this case it was the best option. This one has the eprom on the board, no card involved. I checked Alibaba, and others...but at least I (somewhat) trust the eBay feedback more, especially once it gets up into a few hundred feedback ratings.

IAC, I'll probably start another thread with whatever I find out...works/doesn't work/need new ECU (I'll teach everyone some new words and phrases if that happens).

Otherwise, I managed to get the drivers seat base modded, have to pick up some shorter bolts for one side, and I've got the passenger side mocked up and ready for mounts to be drilled. That'll happen this week. Then I'm going to be installing the separate air supply for the seats, and figuring wiring and controls out for accessories and cab.

Not the cheapest, not the most expensive. I'm in California, and even though they say it's an extended shipping time, they obviously have some kind of stock here. DHL brought it next day.

Once I get the MUTS SW loaded, I'll update everyone...probably in the new thread though. Hopefully this all works, and if it does, yay. Even if it doesn't work for anything more than doing diagnostics and limp mode resets, it would still be less expensive than a tow out of an off road, back country area.

Now I'm having fun going through the MUTSIII documentation....

One particular thing that I have always been interested in is if these units actually come with the service manuals, for use in the service manual viewer.
Given that you now own of these scan tools, maybe you can answer that question. :)

Yah, will do, once I dig into it. I've already gotten the service manual for my truck though, which reminds me I should look through it for MUTS info. The MUTSIII "manual" is...well, terrible. Not quite the height of Chinese-English translation, which reached it's zenith with the publication of a service placard on a drill press a friend of mine once had. "if make ticky-tacky sound call electrical man soonest".

Excellent. You need to bring it to expo so we can all play with it. :)

That's actually a really good suggestion.
Would be great to confirm which trucks it works on.

Lol, SkiFreak damns me with faint praise. :)

But yeah, there is so much discussion around this on a fairly regular basis, sure would be nice to get some first hand experience with what works and what the quirks are.

It would also be nice to verify what I am seeing via my cheap/generic OBD2 interface.

Oh yeah, it'll be resident in the truck, so it'll be coming along. Plenty of opportunities to permanently fry your ECU's! I should probably bring along some release forms, eh?

Czechsix-

I have followed with interest. Two questions:

I am looking at some Corbeau Seats. They are the cheap guys suspension seat. They have a bracket for the Ford 1999+ which if I read correctly you used- but maybe wasn't the best. My wife really wants their suspension bench seat so which is way out of standard. Question- did the F-250 pattern work well enough for you?

What are you considering for charging your house batteries?

MT - I should have updated this thread, regarding the seats, already...but I was trying to lump everything together and finish them all the way, first. However, basically the Ford bracketry is utterly useless. ( I followed Doug Hackney's build schedule, and ordered the parts using his plan...but his project is an older truck, and I think the cab flooring might be different) I didn't use any of it, other than cutting some of it apart to fabricate a couple of new mounting tabs for the driver seat. To keep the seat as low as possible, while still getting it centered on the steering wheel, required cutting part of the seat base off, and bolting the seat base directly to the floor, welding on a few extra mounting tabs, with no riser spacers. The other issue that I'll hit on once I post up a more complete summation is that the National seats aren't exactly the highest quality seats. Foam is showing where it shouldn't, seat head rest is lopsided, etc. I'll run these for now, but I think that I might be looking at some other solutions within the next year or two, depending on how irritated I get with them, LOL. Pictures will tell the story, and those'll get posted up early next week, once I'm done installing the air supply and the sound proofing.

The seat bases are adequate, it's just the seats themselves that aren't the greatest. I'm thinking that the way to go might be using these seat bases, and slap a set of Recaro, or similar, on. Height control for the seat could be a simple valve, mounted on the side.

Corbeau seats are decent, but I was thinking at one time of running the suspension base with Mastercraft seats on top.

House batteries: I was considering using the standard, or upgraded FG alternator...probably the upgraded unit. Whatever I wind up with as a coach, I'm planning on having a decent amount of solar on board too. Backup to the backup will be a generator.

Current status: seats are in, so are the air lines to them. Compressor is not installed yet, because I'm waiting for the dual battery upgrade to come in. Once I install that and the new wiring, the compressor will be mounted right next to the batteries, supported by the battery box brackets.

Next step is taking the seats back out, and running hushmat sound proofing over the interior sheet metal. In addition to that, I'm running some additional wiring looms to account for future control, radio, etc installations. A friend of mine did donate an interesting Toyota Land Cruiser fire truck dash pod that might work out well for switch or radio mounting, so I'll be figuring out if I can use that.

I'll update the MUTSIII thread too, but a quick update here: MUTIII, from what I can see, is a no-go. This particular VIC and software package, even though it was updated to 2012 standards, won't work on 2011+ FUSO's. Oh, bother. I'm still waiting for an answer from the seller, but I don't have high hopes. I've been talking to an expo forum member, and if the MUTS doesn't work, in the end, I think they'll get a nice package at a sizeable discount, and I get to chalk up another lesson learned. Or maybe I'll bring it to the western expo and folks with the correct year truck model can play around with it...

Well that's a bugger, I was hoping you would have some luck with the software. What year/engine is the other truck it's possibly going to?
