We are two Washington DCers who have escaped the physical and mental beltway of the U.S. capitol. With 7 months and 12k miles under ours and our trusty 1995 4runner's belt, we are posed to cross the Darien Gap (via water) and start our South American leg.

All stories, gear reviews, and a few recipes are posted on our site - www.CapitolSouthbound.com.

Cheers!

Don Cesar y Danni,

Great to see you are having a great trip. BZ on your gear selection; I think you did really well. (We wish we had known about roof top tents back when we lived in Africa.) Tail gate cooking is great when the weather is good, but don't lose your down jackets. ¡Hace frio en la sierra! Gonna get nippy.

Looking forward to updates. (And give a wave to Punta Paitilla; our daughter was born there.)

P.S. If you are worried about the weather back home, we are having a cold snap, down to the low 90's and it even rained! :)

Thanks for the note! We are beachcombers at heart and are bracing for the chill in the lower latitudes, and of course higher altitudes. All part of the adventures.

Give our regards to Arlington. (Rays the Steaks was out farewell dinner!)

Cheers,
Cesar

You will have no problem finding decent steaks, chorizo, or chicken in South America. Indeed, there used to be a decent combo steak/pizza place on the Avenida Balboa in Panamá City.

Don't skip Colombia !

we are presently living in Bogota- and have a friend who's a toyota expert if you need a service or two, he's fair and good

don't be scared of the big city, pass by and say hi !

definitely bring a jacket !

We met lost world luis and stacy when they were here too and introduced me to Rafael the mechanic- he has great local knowledge and network for trips in the surrounding areas

We did have some hurricane force winds back in late June that knocked out power and downed very large trees from MD down to Southwest VA.
But overall, mild to normal summer up here. Glad to see others from this part of the country taking trips.
