Part 1 [In the Beginning]
I'd been wanting to go there for a long time. Death Valley. The massive area that it is. All the offerings of a great desert.
A friend and I finally decided to pull the trigger and just drive there. He had made a brief visit there a year or two earlier, and had therefore had some valuable firsthand knowledge.
Two days of driving to get there. But there was no other way. Here's the details from the April 2018 trip:
We spent our first night on the road somewhere in Western Colorado.
We pressed on the next day and the miles continued to roll by.
Driving through Las Vegas, Nevada. We would later see the city's light pollution on the night horizon from miles and miles away.
Part 2 [Destination in Sight]
We spent our next night in Death Valley, basically. We were on public lands outside the eastern boundary of the park.
It was dinner time.
I went through an intensive on-line process with some sort of California fire district to get a campfire permit. Fires in California are no joke.
