Decent 110's

Good point, a legal, clean (for it's age) 110 with minimal corrosion can be had for 20Kish but you have to be very careful. Not sure you'll get anything but a 2.5 NA Diesel or a 3.5 petrol engine at that $. Anything is possible given time and patience and keep a sharp lookout.

I have a client in PA who brought 2 110's from me, He is keeping his LHD and selling the RHD. He wants $18,000 with a clear title.
its a 1983 110 V8 3.5 gas 110, His number etc. is : bill cooper on 1 973-219-5903.

Here's what he wrote to be about what he has done to the vehicle since he brought it.

New Clutch
New exhaust
new trans seals
new transmission mounts
rear dif pinion seal
driveshaft u-joints
front panhard bushings
radius arm bushings
tie rod ends
engine mounts
new swivel balls
resealed housings
new bearings
distributer cap/roter/wires
added locking center console with radio

probably some other minor stuff.

Not a great pic, taken in the UK befores the vehicle was shipped early last year.

There's a 93 NAS with 200K on it for 33K and a 90 for 19K and a Defender 110 pick up down the street with a for sale sign but no price. These are here in NM. Let me know I can find out details.

a few things we are considering:

these guys post videos of their 110s & 90s on youtube with walk around and test drives. they seem to get a steady stream, just another resource to look at

http://www.motodrome.co.uk/

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xv-DYppVqEU

lots of sold cars of theirs on youtube, many 84/85 110s

something you may want to consider is looking for a nice 110 that is a year ahead of the import. store it for a while then head over to the UK pick it up and travel around before shipping it home.

you could use a service like ruggedguide.com or something if you wanted support or were unsure about travel in North Africa etc. or around Europe. they usually meet up in Italy or something and it is fairly cheap

good luck!

I actually have been thinking more about going over and picking it up and driving it around before I ship it. What better time right?

found these guys on an ebay auction, Canadian imported 85/86+ "new" 110s all good to go for $60K!!! yikes nice trucks though

http://www.roverdefenders.com/

I also read that Foleys sv UK shop is going to be selling "new" 110s for $42K US imported

so if you compare Global L.Rovers, Copleymotorcars, roverdefender ( the Canadian Copley hah jk jk ) RoversOutEast, East Coast Rovers, DividingCreekRoverimports, and more there seems to be plenty of sources

the interesting part is there seems to be a trend of Canadian imports coming up frequently for sale

i wonder if prices will get less expensive as time goes on and the availability gets easier. seems you can get a nice rig for about $15-20k right now, might not be exactly what you want but Defenders are like snap together models - you can change anything

ebay.co.uk you can pick up a nice 110 for $6k US and ship it for another 2k. But then your work is cut out for, but when isn't it with a Rover

:)

Might be a good option for those who are short on funds or have rough credit for a loan. my bank said the car has to be in the country and they need an appraisal by a shop/dealer. no price limit but 10-20% down and slightly higher than normal rates

still think your best bet is find a decent rig in the UK, get it checked out or serviced so its reliable and go adventure before shipping it

really depends what your looking to do with it. I just got back from the UK, looking for 110's. They drive Defenders like a Ford trucks, all around use and they can get pretty beat up.

If you looking for a fixer upper or a decent runner importing your own isn't a bad idea. I know a guy who's done that and is loving the restoration process.

You'll have to contend with RHD if you go that route or find something in ROW that is a LHD. Doing your own LHD conversion is becoming more difficult as the parts are becoming hard to find, so that needs to be considered too.

If you're looking for a mint one (aka the above list) then you'll want to work with a UK importer or one of the North American importers who know where and how to get the right quality and parts. Keep in mind that most of the parts and accessories originate there so it's nice to get it outfitted and sent over ready, often those accessories are a better price when bundled with the purchase.

Ok, so I sold my truck and am one step closer. Currently my only vehicle is a 84 Mercedes 300D Turbo. It keeps eating parts so I am interested in getting a 110 very soon but that means my budget has dropped to 15K max and a refurb is out of the question obviously. "Rovers Out East" is very close to me and I will probably at least look at some 110's he has this weekend.....so a few questions:

1) I tried searching but with no avail for tips on looking/buying an already imported 110 (even on d-90). Any big things to look for (most common rust spots on frame, bulkhead, etc...)?

2) Will 15k or less get me a 110 that could be a reliable DD (with proper up keep)?

3) Has anyone purchased from "Rovers Out East?" He has a blue 3 door with 147k miles on it that I'm interested in. Pics: http://s237.photobucket.com/albums/ff251/draaronr/85-blue110-3door-200tdi/

Any thoughts on that one?

Do you remember at the beginning of the thread someone posted " THERE IS A DOCTOR out of Wilmington NC " ?

Well your question #3 would be him, Aaron ( Doc ) .

You should call him and get any questions you might have addressed by him :)
