So I found a local Wagoneer for sale - guy is asking $500 :Wow1:

Suspicions are raised curiosity is piqued.

Its sitting on 33"s but they are chewed up bad, no engine, transfer case, transmission or steering column.

BUT the body is in great shape, clean. The paints not even that bad.

I'm sorry if this isn't the normal question for EXPO but is it even worth considering rebuilding this thing to get a bigger Jeep and 4x4?

I'm thinking it'd be a starting point to put in a Chevy Small Block but...

It is worth more than consideration. It is worth doing.

I found a complete, rust free, running, manual transmission Waggy last fall. It needed a complete going through, but it was only $1500.

I should have just gone for it and sold my Rubicon to finance the build. But I chickened out. Two in college will do that to ya.

Does anyone make engine mounts that go from a waggy to a Chevy small block?

The Chevy guys won't agree but... You can find AMC 304, 360 and 401s that will bolt right up. They all use the same base block. I'd call wrecking yards and find a 401 out of a Javelin. Does it have the transfer case? I'd guess someone used it for a CJ donor.

I'd go for it.

IMO either build the AMC V8, build a 4.6 stroker w/ AW4, swap in a modern Gen IV Chevy V8 w/ 4L80/6L80 or swap an Isuzu 4BD diesel. I wouldn't bother with an old school SBC. It's not an upgrade to the engine that came in the Jeep.

You need to start researching at the FSJ specific forums.

I have a 77 wagoneer with 360 with 4 B manifold and a edelbrock 600 square bore (or holly 650 double pumper spreadbore if you'd rather), Turbo 400, converted quadratrac with low range, dana 44s with front discs, and the rear with a detroit tru-trac that I'd nearly give away if you wanted it. Frame's gone. Bunch of other parts as well.

Up here in Washington, you could buy one that runs reasonable for $1000 or so. Plus they are just sitting around in the rural areas.
