Double Cab - - when I first saw my first DC HiLux in japan, many many many many years ago, I knew that was the type of truck I wanted.
Small enough for off-roading, but big enough for my needs of hauling stuff around or people around.
When Toyota finally brought it to the USA, well I still waited a little longer to look at what the competition was introducing for smaller double cab trucks (GM Avalanche, Fords Explorer Sport Trac and Nissan's Hardbody).

Well, you know the rest was history... and IF I ever need to get another double cab, it would still be the 01 to 04 Tacoma double cab. Not saying the new one is not worthy, but I like the size of this model year version.

I read your buildup just the other night and your truck is very well set-up, i like it. However i have really come to the realization that i don't need the 4 doors. I never haul people and i'm planning on adding a wildernest or flippac topper which should take care of keeping things dry/secure. The added cargo will be a huge bonus. Also i just don't want an auto truck, nor i do want to undertake a big project to convert one either. I know many say that after buying the DC with the auto they warmed up to it. but I have an auto car, an '89 190D mercedes. I'm not crazy about the auto in that car but it works and still gets amazing MPG. besides whenever the weather is bad or i'm going to the mountains i'm in something else. When i get back into my 4runner with the standard i just feel better with it. Driving in the mountains i'm not burning up breaks. when it's snowy/icy i have better control. I get much better MPG and power with the standard. All these things added up to make my decision for the AC. I still really like the DC but it just doesn't seam to fit my priorities as well as the AC. :smiley_drive:
