DEFENDER is coming back across the pond

No, his comparison is good. A Defender compares perfectly with a 7x Series Land Cruiser (VDJ76 vs 110, VDJ78 vs 130, etc.).

Yes. That comparison is interesting and has been done in off road testing as well. They are different in particulars but overall very close. The Toyota has greater reliability, durability and perhaps carrying space on its side while the Defender has greater technical ability by virtue of its lighter weight, more flexible suspension, better center of gravity and better fuel economy. The Cruiser has lockers, but the newer Defenders have good traction control. In actual use they both get the job done.

Who cares? We can't get either of them here and never will.
The classic Defender will never hit these shores again. The only real question is a version does come here, will it fill a real niche or only in name?

Wranglers are sold all over the place. In fact, Europeans are lucky enough to be able to get a diesel version that isn't available in the US. The 2015 Defender is more comparable to the Honda Element or one of the other crossovers. Unfortunately, the real Defender is dead.

I wonder if this plays into the recent (yet again) talk from Jeep about them finally bringing a diesel Wrangler to North America.

Calm down.. The old Defender is being killed in a few years, and being replaced by a new one, which may find its way over here.

I saw a really sweet looking diesel Wrangler Unlimited in a mall parking lot in Lusaka a few months ago. I'm a member of the local Jeep club, but I didn't have time to snap a photo of it to get them all riled up over it.

If Land Rover brings in a diesel Defender replacement, I'll probably put my money down for one.
