Desert FJ. A new beginning.

Hi all. I've been lurking on expedition forum for a while now and reading about all the adventures many have posted. I finally decided to purchase my first true 4wd vehicle for the purpose of exploring some of the beauty that the Southwest US has to offer. So without further ado here she is.

The tires were replaced with a set of practically new BFG MT KM off of a JK Rubicon. I'm loving the way it looks. With it being slightly narrower than the stock tires (255 vs 265) I hardly notice any difference in road noise.

For now I'd likely keep the suspension stock and upgrade only as I see the need to. I'm new to off road driving so I figure her factory lockers and ATRAC would be plenty capable for my novice skills.

Good plan to drive it first and then only modify as needed. Most spend people spend way too much for mods they rarely use or don't really need; some just for the look. You will be surprised how far a stock FJC will take you off-road.

Thanks 1911. The only mod that I may get sooner rather than later is a set of sliders and slid plates for the parts not covered by factory plates.

Congrats on the purchase! I agree you have a solid plan for upgrading, drive it first and see what it and you are both capable of before wasting money on farkle. The stock capability of these trucks is impressive. I followed a similar plan when I bought my Tacoma 6 years ago. I installed sliders and better tires within the first couple of months and haven't done anything since. I have 75k miles now and would like to beef up my suspension to handle weight better, but off road capability isn't compromised without it for the terrain I typically encounter.

congrats on the new vehicle. I just picked up a 07 FJ cruiser, i'm also thinking of keeping it pretty stock. I took it off roading with a couple other FJs and Jeeps, I was really surprised by what it was able to do.
