Diesel engine sources, anybody know of an importer?

Great motor for a Runner IMO. I'll tell you it's not an easy or cheap swap. I just couldn't justify the dough.
I've never had the chance to see or drive a 1KZ-swapped truck. So they are nice, then? The numbers would suggest so and naturally all the Internet wisdom say it's the case, but I dunno. I can't complain about my 22R-E, it accelerates alright and the mileage is fine. I spent rebuilding my 22R-E about half the cost of just getting a 1KZ-TE half cut and above that it would not be a bolt-in affair. I thought about a 2L-TE, but even that is still $3000 or $4000 for a half-cut and to gain a few MPG and have less power. Nah, thanks anyway.

I read somewhere that the Feds are cracking down on the half cut game. If you look at Jarco's site none are actually listed. My understanding is to comply with some new BS they are having to sell all the parts separate instead of the half cut where it sort of was a kit. :(

I drove Hillux's in OZ with them and I can only imagine that in a smaller truck like my 1st gen Runner it would be a blast. Never driven a conversion though. I also drove an older D4D swapped Hillux PU (89 factory SFA greatness) and that thing was amazing. Reving power like a gasser, and a nice diesel torque curve. The IKZ Hillux's felt about the same as the TD HZJ75 series I usualy drove (read: smaller motor in a lighter truck)

I still can't figure out why I came home... Stupid really.

How do you get around the smog issue swapping in a diesel? I've thought about building a veggie machine but don't want to deal with emissisions laws.

Depends largely where you are located. In smog counties in Utah you fill out an official affavit explaining the conversion and you are good to do. You are even issued a title with the engine, cyls, and fuel it runs. You then get a diesel test which is reportedly a breeze to pass around here despite our strict emissions laws...

In GA I just have to get a LEO to inspect it and verify that it is a Diesel. Most tag offices have a LEO on duty that will walk out to the parking lot and verify it on the spot. Then the lady at the counter notes the conversion to diesel.
