A friend of mine owned a Toureg. Don't recall the year, but it was a gasser. Pulled awesome (a trailer with quads on it), but ultimately burned up the rotors trying to stop. Oops.
However, she did everything she could to get rid of that car due to mechanic fees. Not only was the rig expensive to begin with, but the maintenance fees were absurd. I have another friend that recently ditched a VW diesel station wagon for the same reason. Not because it was a bad car, but anytime you take it in for maintenance, you'd be better off just trading it it... everything was stupid expensive.
