Thnks for the info. What case do you have the K3? I'd potentially throw the Kindle in a daypack with other items.. I'd like to protect it...

OK My name is Kelly and I have a kindle.

I bought my mom one with 3g for use in Hawaii and the fact she has no INTERNET. She loves it and the Help desk waled her through it all and how it works. She Loves it and wont give it up.

Now I bought my wife the Ipad for Xmas and I tried to read off it but it bugged my eyes after a hour of reading.

So I broke down and bought me one with 3g with the lighted cover from amazon and man its nice to use and the light runs off the kindle so when you turn it off the light turns off and no batteries. nice

Wife will have hers this week so yes I have purchased 3 ouch.

I have used 4share to look for books in pdf and sent them to my kindle email with convert in the subject line and they are perfect. Tried to do it just as a pdf and it was hard to get the fonts the right size.

but I'm addicted

I use the Amazon Kindle case with the[ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003DZ166G/ref=s9_al_bw_ir06?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-5&pf_rd_r=1Z8JM9K0DV1XBA8FDC7Z&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1271693242&pf_rd_i=1268192011"] built in LED light[/ame]. It's very handy, as most of my reading is after my wife falls asleep :)

That's my my setup too. Great case.
Battery seems inexhaustible and the 3G worked very well on my recent trip to India- even out in the himalayan hinterland.

hmm i'm too cheap to buy a $60 case for $200 reader...

Is the padding in the case enough such that I can toss the kindle into day-pack with other contents while I walk around?

I saw this hard case with zipper all around.. seems like it would protect it more.

Lacey has the regular Amazon leather cover (without light) and she also has a TrendyDigital "waterptoof" case. The Trendy is not much more than a glorified ZipLock bag with padding, but it works well. Peace of mind when we are at the beach/pool/river.

Best Kindle cover I've seen yet. It appears that it's for the latest version of the Kindle though.

Same one I have....I toss my Kindle into my lunchbox and take it to work everyday. I try to read on break, but I usually end up answering Kindle questions......

The 3G/WiFi Kindle is great to read, but I do hope they upgrade the internet browser. I agree it is painfully slow to use, but it can get your ExPo fix when you don't have better access!

Yes, the LED case is fairly thick and sturdy. I think it's nagahide (sp?) wrapped around a cardboard or pressboard core. You wouldn't want to stand on it, or even sit on it, but I toss it in my backpack with other gear all the time.

As for the squeeze test, minor deflection and slight "squeezing plastic rubbing together at the joint" sound. Never noticed it before, and does not seem unsurprising or out of place. I agree with others that this is not as solid as my K2, but it's lighter and 1/3rd of the price.

I have an iPad which I love. Reading on it is great. But it is useless as a reader outside or sometimes even by a bright window. I imagine the iPad 2 will be even better since it is lighter and thinner. I would get a kindle for reading if given the chance because of its versatility and the fact that if I drop it in the pool I'm out a lot less than the cost of the iPad.

That's the advantage of the Kindle, it can be read anywhere; outside, inside, any light conditions you would read a regular book. No washout in bright light....and not being backlit it will last weeks on a single charge (provided you only turn on the 3G when needed)

I have the the Kindle 3G + Wi-Fi and the Lighted Leather Cover and I love it!

I have been able to download books and surf the web in Shenzhen, China (google works too!). The text to speech feature is a nice bonus when I am unable to read due to a bumpy bus ride (note that some books do not have this feature enabled).

Mobile websites work great on the Kindle. I use http://cantoni.mobi as a home page/launching pad to mobile websites.

Books, Games, Podcasts, MP3s, PDFs, Web access... It's not perfect, but I love it!
