Digital Vandalism...or, over exposing our hidden treasures?

Interesting. When I first learned of this location and inquired how to get there I was questioned by the BLM agent about how I had heard about it and why I wanted to go there. He told of the troubles they had already had and their goal to keep it less known and permit free. This was back in 2006 and sad to say it is not hard to find thousands of pictures of this place now when at that time there were maybe a couple hundred.

I've been there probably 5 times over the years and still do not post its actual name in any thread or key word my photos with its name. Same is true for a few other locations i like to shoot.

Years ago I ran across a "secret" national park service cabin in the Apostle Islands. I had heard about them and it took a while to put 2 and 2 together. When I first questioned a ranger, she feigned ignorance. Only after I described the place to her did she acknowledge it. I've told people about it in the first person. I would never post it on a forum like this. I don't know if they still exist. I think the original intent was shelter for a ranger caught out in bad weather.

Reminds me of Fairyland Basin in Yellowstone. In one of the most visited National Parks, it's almost never seen or hiked to due to the 3 day hike to get to it's remoteness

I've never seen professional photographers shots from there. Most wouldn't ever lug the gear in due to it's remoteness
