There are a lot of choices when it comes to what type of damping you want in your shocks so we put together an article which explains the pros and cons of each, and explains the technical details behind each.

Thank you, Ryan!

I have a question regarding what you think would be best for my setup. 2016 Tundra DC Long with home built camper (on frame) in progress. I'm guessing I'll have about +1200 lb on the rear axle and +500 lb front.

Long dirt roads with washboard, potholes, and ruts are the main thing I want to be able to handle at a good speed. No whoops or crazy crawling. I see you aren't a fan of digressive damping and it sounds like that would be a particularly poor choice for washboard. Would that mean Kings would be much better than Icons?

For washboard you want a soft setup so the suspension can move quickly without transmitting the force into the chassis.

You'll definitely want 2.5's to handle the heat.

Fox or King would be better for your application.

You may also want to consider an adjuster so you can keep it soft on the washboard and firm it up for the street so you can get some handling back in it.

Here is a question for TRD Ryan:

What shocks could you recommend for 12,500 pound E–450 based short bus running on potholed and washboard FS roads? OEM (soft) springs with spacers and blocks for lift.

I'm thinking a 2.5 set up with medium/firm valving and possibly a flutter stack on the compression side?

You're the expert, what do you think?
