Disco 1 Rear Door Won't open!!???!!

The rear latch on my 96 Disco stopped working all of a sudden. I can't open the rear door now.

The bad thing is that I can't get to the inside handle to try and open it from the inside because I have a drop-down table installed on the inside of the door that prevents access. (and my drawer system won't allow it to drop down when the door is closed.)

I don't know how I'm going to fix this without removing my drawers and table.

ARRRRGHHHH!. I guess I know now what I will be doing on Saturday.

It's the little clock spring that holds the locking knob in the up position. You should be able to open it from the outside with the key. Turn the key all the way to the unlock position and hold, while pulling up on the door handle. If that doesn't work, try having someone on the inside lift up on the lock while you try to open from the outside.

Your other door locks will eventually do the same thing. They can be fixed with a bit of patience by replacing the little spring. I've done it before, and need to do it again. There's someone on eBay that sells them, just do a search for "rover door spring" to find him :)

While you're in the neighborhood, get a small flat bladed screwdriver and (carefully) pop out the oval emblem on the rear door handle. You should see a small depression at the bottom center of the oval that's there just for this.

There's part of the latch linkage right there.

Clean / lube it up from that point too...it might not solve the problem, but it doesn't hurt either.

X2. Did this a couple years ago. I bought my springs off eBay from a guy in the UK.

I went to fix it yesterday, and now it's working again. ????

I guess I will spray some WD-40 on it and call it good.
