She is probably less likely to abuse something she loves than something she hates. Couldn't you find something that needs work (jeep) that she would take interest in and appreciate? A 2.5L will perform on the trail better than on the highway and a soft top has a lower cog (glass is really heavy). As a teenager I would drive anything I had as fast as it could go, I was fortunate to never have crashed. I sold the 87 Toyota tercel my parents gave me to buy a VW van. I loved it, babied it and obviously never sped again. I not only wanted to learn how everything worked but needed to just to keep going. My oldest is 12 but I already have asked what he might be interested in just to get him interested. I want him to see the time/money in preparing his ride while being care full not to loose his interest. How is your daughter with her stuff? Does she loose or break her phone? Does she let you know if the computer is broken, does she need a lesson or deserve more of a reward? The most practical answer might not be the best, consider all the factors like her friends and the road conditions where she drives like snow or mountains etc. Just my $0.02

All of my buddies that were "handed" vehicles they hated, ended up tearing them up or purposely leaving the keys in them in the midtown area and letting them get stolen. :yikes:

He finally was forced to buy his own vehicle, a mini-truck (bagged and all that stuff), which is now his pride and joy, and babies it. he spent enough time driving his nikes to work, he never thinks twice about even WOT.
