Discovery 300 TDi (new to me)!

How do you like the auto mated with the Tdi? I guess you would have to drive a 5-speed side by side to really know but I'm just curious how Tdi/auto combo works.

Let you know when the truck gets here. I'm sure it will be slower that the 5 speed. My wife wanted the auto so she could drive it too. Plus I'm not a speed demon.

Originally 300tdi engines that were mated to the auto box were tweaked to try to help the power loss,
They had electronics in the injector pump ( EDC & fly by wire on the pedal ) and possibly a different cam ( not 100% sure on that bit) ,power went up by 12-15 bhp. Every little helps :)

That's good to know. I was going to hook up an EGT guage when it gets here as well as I need to find a line on a fan shroud as livening in Texas I don't want the cooling loss in the summer.

Wow, what a great find, TexasTJ. Not sure how I missed this thread till now. Looks like the truck is in nice shape, no apparent rust, and with some nice mods to boot! And it's an SD with manual seats and without leaky sunroofs! I like where this is going.

Glad you have an EGT on your to-do list, especially with the auto transmission. From what I can tell comparing temps with others (my ZF vs. their R380), the engine runs hotter with the auto compared to a manual, and you can hit 1150 or 1200 deg F in a real hurry on hills. Though if you're in Texas, I suppose you don't have many hills, so maybe it's not as much of an issue for you. In Seattle, it requires a watchful eye. Curious what temps you'll see!

And I'll throw in another vote to stick with alloys. Steelies look great, especially the Wolf's (I'm biased...), but man are they heavy. My truck is similarly outfitted, plus Wolf's, and I'm down around 18mpg. I can't help but think I'd gain back some fuel mileage if I switched back to alloys.

I noticed from the pics it appears you don't have a windshield washer bottle. If not, there's a cheap one on Amazon that I'd recommend, and it's of a more reasonable size. Unless you feel the need to stick with the massive original equipment bottle.

Looking forward to more updates!

Its funny you said that about the fan shroud. I looked @ the photos and thats what I was gonna say you better get sooner then later. Tell Ashley he needs to throw one in cause they aren't cheap. Congrats on the new rig. We went drink'n in it back in the fall @ an event before he sold it.

Is it wrong I'm starting to look at UK car sales sites for a diesel Disco to import as they sunset past 25yrs? I fear the rust and issues of the early generation but something about the absurd graphics and the useless novelty of a 3door TDi Disco screams to me. Trucks like this only fan those flames.

Ray you should do it! The Three doors are awesome! you could alway make the Coyote your Family camping truck and the Three door your Solo/Couples trip truck. One can never have to many Discos!

Like minds Nate, like minds. Sadly the wife demands that our next Rover be her series, something I really can't complain about in truth. So I'll have to wait. Half of my wonders about how hair brained it would be to put Coyote in for a partial resto and do a swap when I get back to the U.S., mostly b/c the LR3 is a great family camping truck and it would be an interesting project. Will be great to see where yours ends up going.

Oh so sad that the wife would want a series j/k. When my son is old enought we want to get a early 90 to rebuild for his first car. GM V8 and all! As for now it seems the disco 300 TDi shroud is NLA. So on to ebayuk
