Discovery with a white roof

Has anyone seen a Disco with it's roof painted white?

If so what did you think of it? Maybe you have one?

My roof on my 96 Discovery needs painted & I had a idea of just painting
it white. The rest of the truck is black so it would be a major contrast.
Is this a crazy idea or do you think it would look ok?

Opinions please....

My smart alec answer: White Discos have white roofs.

White roofs look cool on FJ40's, FJ Cruisers, Mini Coopers. Some Defenders have white roofs with different body colors.

The black and white color combination I don't like though. When I see black FJ Cruiser with white roof, it just reminds me of law enforcement.

Blue/white = cool
Red/white = cool
Green/white = cool
Black/white = umm....not cool?

I don't think it would look good.

I did get to drive a 07 Defender for a while that was blue and black. It was a development mule and some engineers had rolled it on it's side, so they replaced the panels but didn't have matching colours. Ole Black and Blue. That truck had a rough life, because then I proceeded to try to destroy the drivetrain (with no luck). :violent-smiley-031:

Even though mines is camoe'd I like a black roof myself.

I think a white or any colored disco with a Black roof is nice

Series = Yes....okay, Limestone

Defender = Yes

Disco = No...I've seen it in combination with blue and with green....not going
on my vehicle, but to each his/her own.

It just does not fit, especially with the white hood. People would think you put panels from another vehicle on your disco.

The white roof on early land cruisers serves a very important function....the fact that the fiberglass has very little insulation underneath, and if you paint it other than white you'll fry inside....

Later models do a much better job of insulating the roof with headliner materials, etc. so it's not as necessary. Even given that, I bet you'd lower the interior temps dramatically with a white roof....

I always liked the "safari" or "tropical" double roof panels on older rovers....what a great idea. On my 80 series, the floor of my roofrack was painted white for that very reason, to provide an insulation space between the rack and the roof.

The "safari" double roof panels really work in keeping the inside of the vehicle cooler. An easy way is just throw a wood sheet panel on top and strap it down. Gear can go on top of the sheet panel.

i like it, personally, but i would only do it if i had significant damage to my roof. it that happened, then i'd just go soft top.:beer:

Thank you all for your opinions!

90%+ Of you say no go on the white roof.

Well that's what I'm hearing from family as well!

So I guess it will stay black...perhaps I'm a dork...LOL!

there is a navy blue one with a white roof in denver. Saw it on Colfax last time I was down that way.

I put a non-sunroof roof onto my RRC and it was white. I kept it that way for a few weeks but didnt like it. Had it painted red to match for about $400. Looks way better now. Like others have said, it doesnt look quite right.
