Discussion on the 2021 Isuzu/Chevy 6.6L Gas Cabover Platform

Epps, as much as I like your idea of minimalist, compact truck, I believe that a 109" wheelbase truck may be a bit sketchy with a camper on its back. For reference, that is the same wheelbase as a 5th gen 4Runner and a Mercedes GLK250 and only 6" longer than a regular cab, short box 80s HiLux. I have driven a 112" wheelbase Fuso with about 1500 - 2000 pounds on the bed, but the weight was down low. (flat bed, no box) Turning circle and breakover are quite good compared to the longer wheelbase trucks I have driven. (132"; 150" and 176") Everything is a compromise.

Thanks for you input into my thinking in trying to come up with a smaller lower cost vehicle. I see and understand your points. What would you think of a scaled up version? Could the 150" crew cab with the Terranova cabin work better? I'm a real fan of EarthCruiser design, but $400,000 plus is above the budget. Finding a smaller lower cost product might make a better case for making a purchase.

It would seem to me that EarthCruiser could profit from maximizing its use of the Isuzu truck line over the pickups now being offered. It would also set them
apart from the others offering nearly the same pickup packages.

Also I drive an Expedition and I am no fan of the long hoods, I do prefer a cabover and the shorter wheel base.

EarthCruiser/CORE: Can we get an update on the performance of the Isuzu 6.6 on and off the road?

How does it ride compared to the Fuso and how's the mpg?

When do you plan to offer the Isuzu on the EXP?

Thanks, Epps

Epps,
Thank you for the follow on this thread.
The Isuzu has a great confidence inspiring road presence and performance. The 6.6 provides initial pick up and sustained power through out the 6 gears. Initial acceleration is smooth, dedicated and friendly. Climbng grades of 3-5% power and gearing stays true and provides ample power to pass if needed.
We are still testing fuel economy throughout the range of road and terrain conditions.
Ride quality is what you would expect from EarthCruiser mile eating comfort.
We will offer the Isuzu chassis on the EXP and FX platform in 2022

Looks pretty good, and I agree, driving an Isuzu NPS does bring a smile to my face as well.

You've kept the width down to the minimum on that tray, the front head on view makes me think those are 12" wide tyres, not 13".

I suspect that this unit, although derived (I believe) from Isuzu's NPR model, will in fact be better than my modified (ATW Australia) NPS model.

Thanks so much for the video! That looks so effortless. For the class 4/14000# chassis, how much payload capacity is available after conversion?
Other question would be: Isuzu's brochure says that the in-frame gas tank is 30 gallons. Assuming that the truck gets 8mpg as a camper driving in mixed conditions, a range of 240 miles isn't great. Will EC/CORE offer secondary tanks and transfer pumps as well?

We offer a 60 gallon SS tank as an upgrade. We have found that we are getting around 10 mpg fully loaded on a 38-gallon tank.
I have spent about 6500 miles behind the wheel and find the road characteristics to be incredibly friendly and downright fun to drive.
