A month ago I purchased a barcelona red 2015 trail premium 4runner with 7000miles. I'll be using this thread to document the on going build of this truck. It will be built will utility in mind and will also be built "lighter" compared to my previous trucks. I've had my fair share of experience building toyotas. A few examples is my old 3rd gen, 4th gen , diesel land cruiser and also the pickup powered by a volkswagen tdi motor.

First upgrade for the 4runner was in the wheel department. I went with a 285/70/17 cooper st maxx paired with scs f5 wheels.

Shortly after I took the 4runner out to Vermont to explore the back roads and test out the truck on the local trails.

.

Overall the truck did great and the 285's cleared well stock without any lift.

A week later , I had an aluminum platform style roof rack built in order to support the tent I was about to buy. The rack is extremely light! I would say 40-50lbs.I also installed a gobi rear ladder.

Putting the rack to work ,I drove 14hrs round trip to pick up an autohome Columbus.Odd thing I realised on the way back was that my fuel mileage was surprisingly better with the tent on. I still need to get the rack painted or powder coated.

Nice builds! Cool that you're pickup was a TDI too, not something you see everyday.

Love the color combo on the 5th gen. RTT looks like it belongs too. Well done.

Random question but where did you get the tailgate decal?

Ill have to find that information for you. It was sitting in my basement for a while so it was in bad shape when I put it on (few years) . I put it on to see how it looked and not sure if I like it or not. If I decide to go with it Ill order another and re apply. It was initially for my 4th gen 4runner. I know the guy that made it is out of Alaska. Ill get back to you on his contact info.
