Expedition Leader
Hey boys and girls . . . come drive a trail with me this Saturday. This will be pretty short, so I'm starting in the afternoon. Likely be hitting pavement just as it gets dark. Trail starts off of U.S. 60 east of Superior. This is not the standard approach to Devil's Canyon - we're undertaking an exploratory route. :088:
Time: 12:30pm, this Saturday (1/13/2007)
Place: Chevron, US 60 and Goldfield (last exit before the 60 curves southeast out of Apache Junction)
Comm: CB - 4; 2M - 146.460
Why: Exploratory route. We're losing access to Devil's Canyon and Hackberry Creek due to the mine. However, this road (FR 2466 in the Tonto National Forest) is on the east side of Devil's Canyon. While I've driven this one, I did not take it to the end. The end, according to maps, should be directly across Devil's Canyon from Hackberry Creek. We'll get to see Devil's Canyon and all those incredible rock spires from the other side. Map is attached.
The Trail: Very easy. I've led a green driver in a stock Xterra through here. It's about a level and a half "up" the scale from a graded road. But it's cool. Some switchbacks, some hills, a handful of rocky patches. Plus, a constant view of Devil's Canyon. Here's one of the toughest parts:
So . . . who's in?
