Annie and i left home on Monday Feb 13th for a trip of anywhere from 4-6 weeks. We are thinking 6 but who knows.
After a quick stop to visit my parents in Medicine Hat AB we were off to ITB to have some work done on the camper.
We figured that having two thermostats in the camper, one in the front by the door and one in the rear bedroom area, offered us a unique opportunity. We had ITB install studs at the top near the wall so we could hang a thick blanket over the hallway thus crating two "rooms" and two heating zones. Now we set the bedroom area at 72F when we go to sleep and we leave the front room at 50F. This mean that our heater is cutting less often as each thermostat was sending it's own signal to the heater so we had the feeling the heater was cutting in too often. It could have been all in our heads but this seems to work real well and Annie got the opportunity to use her sewing skills again making the divider.

Bedroom looking forward

As you may also notice from the photos I added wall to wall carpet for this winter trip. I went down to our local carpet supplier and picked up a roll end that matches perfectly with the interior. I cut the pieces on the living room floor in the house and installed it in 4 pieces in the Cruiser. When we get home we may have the edges bound. The carpet pieces are cut pretty well and do not move at all.

After leaving ITB we made some miles to get to some sun. Our first scenic stop was Kolob Canyon just south of St George UT. Oh ya, I guess I never mentioned where we were going. We headed from home down to UT, then to Vegas to visit some friends then the plan is to head to Flagstaff, Sedona, Phoenix to visit friends, fire up the barby OZ, then on to San Diego, LA and up the coast back through Portland and British Columbia to home.

While we were up at Kolob Canyon we were approached by a couple of people looking for an elderly gentleman who took a drive on Feb 14th and as of the 16th had not been found. I checked this morning and it appears he was found alive, stuck on a remote road but was suffering from dehydration and exposure. I read that he passed in the hospital with his family at his side.

After Kolob Canyon we went around to Zion for a quick hike and some supper.

This evening I made rice and salmon. I add this as someone asked for some photos of inside the camper and how we live inside. I will add more inside shots as we go along.

We are now sitting in Williams AZ for the night. Wondering if we should do the Grand Canyon train into the canyon tomorrow. The problem being that I wouldn't have WiFi so would not be able to work all day which probably will make the trip a no go sadly. It is on our list of things we want to do. Then tomorrow off to Flagstaff. I need to get an SD card for our Garmin GPS then down to Sedona for the day and hopefully some sun and heat, something lacking on the trip so far.

I don't know if you plan to go back to the Kolob area but we enjoyed the drive up from Kanarraville to Kolob resevoir on the Kanarra Mountain Road. The reservoir had some nice places to camp and the road was in reasonable condition the whole way. There was some good hiking in the Lava Point area too.

If you do make it to the Grand Canyon, we found an awesome campsite right on the rim in the national Forrest. Graded dirt roads the whole way there. I put a marker on ioverlander:

I forgot a small alteration we did at ITB as well. Recently we had some Overland friends Alex and Ans visit us. While we were visiting I mentioned that one time our door was whistling when it was very windy from a certain direction. Alex showed me what they did to counteract the whistling. This is what we ended up doing.

You will also notice we added some studs to the door above the window so we can hang our blackout privacy curtain at night.

GREAT idea, I may do that at the top an bottom. As much for the wind noise (has not been bad on mine) as the security when I am out of the vehicle. Could leave through the drivers door and have it secured from the inside!

The last few days we spent in Las Vegas with friends so no photos of that as I am sure everyone has seen enough photos of that. We were scheduled to camp at Fletcher Campground on Mount Charleston on Tuesday night but an avalanche in Kyle Canyon next door and some ridiculous winds meant we moved on towards Flagstaff. After staying in Williams AZ last night we woke up to another cool windy day so decided that a train ride into the Grand Canyon was not in the cards today. Instead we headed into Flagstaff then on to Walnut Canyon. An Expo friend Rickized that we met at Expo in Mormon Lake this past year had suggested us to it and we finally had the chance. Good recommend Rick, Walnut Canyon was very nice albeit on a cool windy day.

After Walnut Canyon we took the drive suggested by Sisyphus from Flagstaff to Sedona. Another great recommendation. I love driving the Cruiser on the tight twisty canyon roads. It handles like a sports car, LOL.

After arriving in Sedona and checking out Tlaquepaque shopping area we realized the sun was going down and the hills were alive with colour. We quickly walked out to the Cruiser and headed up the hill. Schnebly Hill led us to some magnificent photo opps and scenery.

After the sun set Annie made a lovely supper of rice, shrimp and peas.
What more could a guy ask for...Candle light in the Cruiser.
We try to buy some fresh flowers as soon as we cross the border into the USA. It makes it feel even more like a home.

Today I bought tickets for the Saturday Behind the Scenes Tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West so that will be another FLLW property off the list.

Oz, not sure but up here in Sedona it was 26F last night but we were toasty warm in here.

Thanks Elcoyote, we are doing the Behind the Scenes tour at Taliesin West so that should be perfect.

Just a tip for when you head down from Sedona. Continue taking 89A through Jerome to Prescott and then down 89 through Wickenburg. Much nicer than the I17 and there are some nice corners to try out the trucks handling :)

Spent yesterday and last night on the red Rock trail west of Sedona.
Some shots of the day.

I was asked for more photos of how we live in the Cruiser day to day.
Here is a shot of Annie the night before.
It was cold outside so we retired to the inside for catching up with family back home.

The next morning brought sunshne and Annie found us a beautiful spot to spend the day and ultimatley the next night on the Red Rock Trail above Sedona.

Annie getting ready to do some sewing.

Annie heating up some Moroccan Stew that we made at home and froze for the trip.

My "office" for the day

A little lizard we found on our hike. He obviously came out to sun himself when it was warm but had cooled off too uch to move.

The view from where we had a drink before supper.

Annie making super.

Sunset view of our camp spot for the day and where we stayed ovdernight.

Off to Prescott today to visit old friends.

Oz we should be in your neck of the woods by Monday. I will be in touch.

Java, it was a great spot.
So much so that we had seen this little rig the day before but when we got up this morning it was tucked in right by us. A stealth camper for sure. It was cold this morning when we went outside and there was frost covering everything including this rig.
