Does a decent 12V heater exist?

correct. Why would I want to freeze every 45 minutes.
Well they also make other versions that don't have the Timer, The reason I wanted the Timer is I don't want to flatten the PLB40, Also all my sleeping bags are rated at -50*c/-58*f and below so I only need it to take the chill off the bag,

Either type they are a handy thing to have.

And that is exactly the way to use electric anything for heat off grid

for only a few minutes per 24hrs

Unless you have a massive DC power setup.

Yeah I like to keep my power draw as light as possible and like those electriclly heated mitts these 12v blankets are great in a survival situation for anyone who needs warming up, I use the mitts as a secondary/backup mitts because if you let your hands get too cold normal gloves or mitts won't warm up fast enough, Once the hands are warm again you can switch over to normal gloves or mitts to save the batteries, or put them back on charge,

As a backup the old Kero Huricane Lamps can help as a form of heating as long as the Air can circulate,
