I live down in Durango....

What kind of vehicle do you want to build? Pure rock rig like a buggy? Do everything full bodied rig? Let me know what you are looking for....and what you are thinking about using as a base vehicle if any....I can write up something for you.

there's a group called "colorado canyon crawlers", that meets in gj once a month, mild to medium rigs. a lot of the guys from offroad design go wheeling with them. let me know if you want more info and i can pm you a contact number.

i'm in rifle, but more of a chevy guy. best way to learn about it is start wheeling with guys that know, and research.

checkout pirate4x4: tons of info, extreme builds, need thick skin, humility, and manners. search before asking, always, especially at this one.

if you haven't bought a vehicle consider your requirements. jeep is a good choice, cheap fits alot of places, lots of parts. just makes me feel claustrophobic.

good luck

after looking at your other thread, check out the motorcade in nickads.com and western slope craigslist or denver. and please respect the people that are trying to help you.

Colorado4x4 is a great site, and LOTS of GJ guys on there. I would tell you that you need to know exactly what you are trying to do BEFORE you BUY much less build. THEN I say you do all the research and be concise with your efforts.

If you are going with a Jeep I would highly recommend doing a genright Highline Kit front and rear, then 2" of spring lift, an inch of body lift and inch of motor mount lift, and a belly up type skid plate. Toss in some ARB front and rear and you will be amazed at where that thing can go!

(with the highline kit and the 3" total lift you could conceivably run as large as 38" tires, so with that much tire you would have to drive fairly conservatively on the gas pedal.)

Anyhow, know what you want. Heck that lift with some d60's in there would do you really nicely.

Good luck
