Does anyone run a Detroit locker in GM 10 bolt?

Couple years back I installed a powertrax lock right in the stock rear of my 99 Sierra 2wd. Plus side of it was that I was able to install it myself in a couple hours in the garage. Down side was the chirping and in the snow I would have preferred a limited slip. Fun for slides and such but that's about it.

At the same time my friend installed a Detroit tru trac in his 99 Sierra with 4.56's, 35's and 6 in lift. That thing was amazing. Super smooth being gear driven and very predicable. He now has a 2014 Silverado with the G80 and hates it. Has told me that he wishes he had the old truck back just for the tru trac.

Both our trucks had open diffs when we did the lock right and Tru Trac.

TT-Tacoma,

Thats some excellent input. Ideally I want to run a detroit in the rear and a truetrack up front. Unfortunately there is no truetrack for the 8.25 IFS but if I swap it out to a 9.25 IFS I can make a Dodge Ram 9.25" truetrack work in it. I also have friends with Jeeps that have treuracks in them and they have issues with some of the trails we do, so a detroit would be more of what i am looking for in the rear.

I already started looking for a new carrier and a lunchbox to swap out into the truck should be able to put that in for under $500 just for the rear.

Thank you.

I would say hands down the lock right I had would be superior on the trail due to its design and instant lock up. If the truck is mainly driven off pavement you'd be fine with it. Can you drive it on pavement? Yes, but it takes some finess in corners and you have to get used to planning for the corners and coasting through them to avoid the lock up. Avoiding the lock up has two reasons in my opinion, it's a little rough/loud and the chirping tires.

FWIW If I had it my way on my truck I'd ditch the stock rear e locker and do a tru trac in the rear and front. But I don't rock crawl and mainly drive on the street so the locker is pretty much a waste on me. Plus I don't like how it kills the abs when it's engaged. Not sure why they couldn't keep the front abs working.

I think if you wheel a lot a lock right or lunch box rear with a selectable front locker would be a great combo. Save you the trouble of finding a carrier and adapting stuff. Costs more but you get a predicable set up.

I think that's the perfect traction combo for a fullsize. Curious to see how the 9.25 works out. Been researching that for my burb too.
