Does anyone used engine pre-heaters?

Slightly off topic but what about battery heaters?
I was helping my son with some work on his GF's Rav4 that came from Alaska. It had block heaters and a battery heater.

How much are batteries derated in low temps?

A lot! Enough that it is supposed to be worthwhile to let the battery heat itself with an electric element.

I've often wondered if a stick-on side mirror heater element would do as a battery heater.

If you need help with the install, just send a plain ticket! :26_16_2:

Heck, if it were realistic I bet a few of us would drive over.

I'm with Dave in that I've had a block heater (or two) in every one of my Cruisers save my 100 (which if we keep it will get one). I've never had one leak or pop out, and love them for a nice start despite their electric power consumption.

Lowenbau, which one did you get, how much and where?

I used to sell Webastos before Prairiedog Parts closed.
I use tsl17s. I bought the one in my BJ74 in 1999 or so and have moved it from rig to rig. They are cheaper now, recent price in Calgary was $1250 including the 7-day timer. Get a quote from Freightliner in Abbotsford. They are good guys there and will likely give a good price.
