Does the Prado (GX470) belong Here

I think it's really pretty easy.

Toyota has a "Land Cruiser" platform. It's the 200-series. Before that was the 100-series. (etc.)

Can you imagine a GX460/470 driver pulling up to a LC100 or LC200 and saying "how do you like my Land Cruiser"? That'd be HILARIOUS! OR...even worse...pulling up to a LX470/LX570. WOW!

It's a 4Runner/FJC/Prado (etc) platform...not a Land Cruiser platform.

Why so hilarious???? Sounds "IMHO" kind of snobbish...who cares what one "calls" their car...

Some do care...that's why they post what they do on these forums. My goodness, there's a large amount of FJC owners who say on-line their FJC is a Land Cruiser. That is hilarious.

To me...I'd just keep quiet if somebody in person called their 4Runner a Land Cruiser. Let them think what they want and feel the way they do.

On-line, no way...I'll speak up so it can be debated.

You're almost snobby enough to post in the Land Rover forum. My FJC has the initials FJ and the word "Cruiser" in it, so I'll post wherever I please.

You just proved my "forum point". :victory:

No snob here though. I think FJC's are awesome rigs! Awesome! Though they are not a Land Cruiser. Pride/snob has nothing to do with it at least with me. I do think some FJC owners "want" their rigs to be "Land Cruisers" and that's OK...but it doesn't make them Land Cruisers.

I also think very highly over Rover's as well. Lots of buddies. Close ones. Conclude what you wish. If you are correct I'd have to edit a ton of comments on my website. LOL!

Since there are limited parts for the GX, which vehicle would the modifications be adapted from?

A 4Runner - right?

It is called a 120 Land Cruiser simply for marketing purposes.

120 series is the platform designation. It is not marketing.

PRADO is a light duty Land Cruiser brand.
It is a genuine offshoot of the Land Cruiser brand, not marketing hype.

There are three generations of light duty Land Cruiser:
70 series ( it is an overlap, never called a Prado- coil sprung 70 is considered the 1st gen Prado)

90 series (first true Prado)
120 series
150 series

The first 'true' Prado was the 70 series and it was introduced in late 1984, the exact same time as the Hilux Surf (4runner)

As far as somebody with a GX470 wondering what section to hang out in I'd suggest to hang in the section which is mechanically similar to your vehicle if you are interested in the tech of it all. In this case the 4runner of a similar vintage is more mechanically similar than any other Land Cruiser.

The name is of little significance. I'd happy hang in the LX450 section if there was one because the tech there would relate nicely to my HDJ81.

I stand corrected
What I mean by "first true Prado" is that the 90 was designed ground up as a light duty LC.
The 70 is really a heavy duty, commercial grade LC that they tried to soften up a bit.

and i would say, a REAL Land Cruiser has a straight axle under the front of it. sorry, yours is not a Land Cruiser. hell, it's not even a Toyota. it's a Lexus.

For web wheeling and tech info, GX owners can look to same year 4Runner forums for mechanical stuff.
They can look to Prado forums for body/interior/armor/suspension stuff

There are a few guys on Toyota120.com and ih8mud.com with modded GX's.
Woody on Toyota120 is building up his GX nicely with lift, armor and outfitting.
Not to mention the wealth of info from Prado forums in AUS.

I have a KZJ95 and its badged and marketed here as a Land Cruiser 90.

The off-road crowd here refers to the 90, 120 and 150 Cruisers as "Barbie Cruisers". They´re not heavy duty like the bigger "real" Land Cruisers. The 70 is not considered a "Barbie Cruiser", its stout as hell and has a SFA.

That said I usually look for my info on Prado, Hilux, 4Runner and Tacoma forums.

I don´t care where my info comes from and what my Cruiser/Prado/KZJ95/Barbie is called, its just as awesome to me.
