Does your exhaust break whistle?

All that being standard, I feel or seem to feel no distinct exhaust brake being applied.

Have you checked that the exhaust brake itself is actually working?
A simple test would be to check the position of the butterfly linkage and then engage the engine warm-up switch and see if the position changes.
Naturally, the engine would need to be cold for the warm-up circuit to function.

What year is your truck? I never see a low vacuum light. Sounds to me as if the tech is wrong. You could test it by applying vacuum with a Mity Vac using a long hose while driving to see if you can manually activate the brake. Resistance is noticeable on my truck when the brake activates.

My initial suspicion would be that the vacuum line to the brake is disconnected or has a leak, hence the low vacuum light.

That is not normal.

Thank you all for the responses. I was of the opinion that it was not as well but that is what I get for trusting the techs. I will have to take the truck to Pensacola next time for maintenance as they have a much better reputation online it seems.

Comparing to my 1994 FG would be sort of pointless. No whistle in my exhaust brake. What part of AL do you live in? About ten years ago I ended up in Huntsville, towing a trailer with two motorcycles in it behind the FG so we could ride a part of the Trail of Tears route with all of them other nut cases. Just over 65K on the old beast.
