Double cab long beds?

Anyone running or wish they had got one nstead of the short bed? I am considering a new to me truck in the fall and as much as like the look of the short bed, the function of the long bed is great. I'm sure it would hurt in some offroad conditions, but I will not be doing any hardcore rock crawling with it.

Pics would be .good

I wish I had the longbed but not in a doublecab. What dissuaded me from it was in late '04, early '05 when I was researching the truck, I had read that while the bed was 12" longer, the wheelbase was 13.5" and that this made for a cumbersome turning circle. These number may have changed or my memory of them, but it is something for you too look into.
While I have no use for the full second seat, on the whole, if I had to choose between a double long or a double short today, I'd take the long. With a toolbox bolted in, the bed of my truck can be more accurately described as a hatchback.

I really wish I had the extra space afforded by the long bed, but the DCLB isn't available with the TRD Off Road pkg, so that was the determining factor for me.

Oh the only thing that is good about the TRD package is the locker...easy fix.

Biggest gripe with the DCLB for me is, no manual transmission....totally lame on Toyota's part, can be remedied though. pull a manual tranny from a FJ cruiser along with the transfercase with the lever...all is good.

I manage just fine with my longbed, doublecab while out in Moab and even to survive Black Bear Pass in Colorado with the TRD Sport.

Just keep in mind, you will be dragging your hitch on some obstacles and choose your lines carefully.

Even with a mild 2.5-3" lift, I think the DCLB will be fine for most off pavement driving, always thought the Nemo build was bad ********...

I sometimes wish I went with a long bed. Only reason why would be to sleep in while camping. I bought my truck used for a smoking deal so its not like I really had a choice between the two. If I bought brand new I would probably go with access cab for the long bed.

Cent frum my sell fone, so donte freek out about my spelling or grahmar.

I love my DCLB. I have about 2 1/2" of lift and air bags. I am not a hard core rock crawler any more. Been there, done that.
I have removed the back seat and have an operable platform that I strap down my ARB refrigerator to.

Great looking truck! I think the long beds are sweeeeeet with a small lift and larger tires :smiley_drive:

What kind of fuel mileage do you guys get with the pop-up bed campers? I am asuming those campers would sleep 4?
Thanks

I have an 04 dbl cab with the short bed. If I were shopping today I would get the long bed and throw in a selectable locker and call it done.

My 04 came with the locker but no TRD, so it would be like a long version of my current truck.

04 DCSB here. I miss the 6 foot bed (for sleeping) but love the extra space and access of the four doors. Not sure what I'll do when the need to replace comes up.
