Down-loadable TIF images of National Forest Maps

The Forest Service has started to post the images, and when the data base is complete, will have all the maps available nation wide.

Downloading is slow, but it sure beats shelling out $10.00 for a map.

The TIF resoution is fantastic! I snipped this chunk out and resized it as a demo.

I don't know if OZI Explorer can use these as an overlay, but if it can it could be very cool!

That is good news. The only ones in AZ are the Kaibab NF so far, but it is a start.

I'm downloading one now but its gonna take a little while. Do you know if this is a GeoTif or comes with a world file? I'm dubious about the geo referencing in NFS maps, but that may just be due to the poor quality of printing for most examples.

WhiteThaiger (http://www.whitethaiger.net/), an expert with Ozi Explorer sez they should work fine! Having the road numbers on an Ozi map would be really nice, even if the map isn't 100% accurate.

But aren't these the same maps that might be pretty outdated (made decades ago)?

The Kiabab NF map I downloaded is exactly the same as the one I carry in the truck.
