Driving with tailgate down/open

Ensworth: that is a sweet setup!

I'm actually considering spacing the camper back a few inches so it just sits on the gate. Another user here actually did it with a tc650 and f250 because his camper had the half-wrap and wouldn't clear otherwise. Would make for a little extra storage up front as well.

Nice to see another outcast with a porch. Mine folds up as well.

I get the tailgate down/front porch thing. My camper is actually made for a Ford Ranger, so I can close the tailgate when travelling.

Hawk with my tailgate, the cutout in the center works great for access through the door, it works great as a table.

Could you please post more detailed pictures of your tailgate? Is that an aluminum sheet that you added to the tailgate yourself?

I've been thinking of doing the same thing, but mounting a lockbox for a generator on one side...either on top or bottom of the tailgate. And either a small hitch-mounted cargo carrier or a hitch step, instead of a step stool on the ground. I'd be interested in your experience, and how you think my plan would work.

Thanks!

Is this what your thinking about? I just slapped the rack on for the photo shoot. It is rock solid when bolted to the bumper. I plan on cutting out the back part of the rack for easier access for the girlfriend. And yes it is a piece of scrap aluminum on the tailgate. The rack is from cabela's on sale. I flipped the receiver part over to get better clearance.

ensworth - what do you use for a step with that hitch-mounted rack? Just the rack itself? I would think those grates aren't strong/robust enough.

There is a piece of aluminum flat stock in th middle to step on. I didn't think it would hold up myself. I still have more work to do on it just not enough time. I like the set up so far. My girlfiend likes it to put dirty boots in, on the way into the camper.
