You drive a landy mate?.

No I don't.
The thing is, the OP is from the states. U can't find them like u can over there. If u find one here, then ur payin big$!
Then it comes down to being able to find parts when it breaks down.
If I were to get a LR it would be one that would need a full resto and then rebuild with a GM drivetrain that is readily available in the states.
I have a Xterra right now and that can be hard to find parts for depending on what I'm lookin for.

My buddy Clayton that lives in Roma is rockin this bad boy!

The Op is about someone who likes the look of Defenders.

your opening line
Buy a old chevy suburban, add all new drivetrain, and build your own adventure vehicle.
It will be better than the hideous polished turd!

Then you give us your view of whats best and still are. You are a typical Landy bagger; probably never owned one, never driven one, but have all the BS as to why they are "no good". Why do non landy owners feel the need to inform landy owners they have it wrong. Something to think about.

I really like the 4 door versions for the extra space. I would ditch the 20's and install 17's or something like that for more off road friendly tire/wheel combo, ditch the "urban truck" plate on front and add a winch setup. Other than that, they are awesome.

The wheels look too big or the trucks need lifting, but I guess that would screw up the handling around town, certainly don't look like they would work offroad.

Its funny that a lot of you guys on the the other side of the pond seem to really like land rovers.
There are at least 8 defenders/series I drive past on my way to work (4miles) that dont get a second look, but the guy with a couple of Studebakers gets me jumping on the brake pedal every time I go past, and I really want to replace the 110 with a Yank/Eastern block truck.
Must be down to wanting something a bit different, stand out from the crowd etc.

I like them other than the racing seats.

Those Recaro seats are actually fitted to the SVX (I have a 90) and after many 90's from 1996 onwards, great lateral support so no sliding all over off road and very comfortable. That is likely the best mod in my book compared to a std Defender

Dude don't get ur panties in a bunch.

Like I said, I am from the states as well as the OP. Very limited supply of ur precious Landy. I'm just expressing my opinion. Isn't that what the forum is here for?
Not a viable wheeler here.

The most important thing about picking a wheeler is to look at the availability of parts in ur region. If I had a endless pit of $ I would still pick something else. But that is a mall crawler so I doubt it would be wheeled anyways.

Just never seizes to amaze me that none landy drivers seem to think their opinion of what Land Rover owners should be doing is somehow wanted or even worthy of listening too. Like why would one pull a coil sprung land rover drive train out and replace it with a leaf pack from a international or suburban. If a land rover owner wanted one of them they would have bought one don't you think.
But to think new axels and drive flanges in a Defender and the drive train is very very good. The ride is great, articulates brilliantly, and has gearing to craw over most things doesn't seem to register that perhaps that's why people buy them.

OP is drooling over what he wished he could afford, and wouldn't it be good if they were in the States. Not to hear you tell him they are polished turds. I could tell you my opinion about Land Cruisers as well but I don't. Nor do I drop in on Land Cruiser threads or any other model and bag them.
I don't have my panties in a knot trust me, just expressing how tired one gets from rubbish comments about a marc from people who really have no idea.

Wow, I never thought that this post would get so many opinions, I guess that's because I put up an example of an iconic truck that's been outfitted to look nice and urban, with no concern to its use on off-pavement situations.
I like this truck, if for nothing else other than looks. I am not a big off road person, never really needed anything more than a regular pickup truck to travel thru all the backroads in Mexico and the SW US. Always believed that to each their own. Drive what you like and what works for you. Spend all your money on upgrades or beat it stock, so long as you get out there.

Couldn't agree more...
Perhaps I need to get back out there instead of being "out there" behind the key board.

If you ever so happen to buy a Defender there will be two outcomes. You won't like it and sell it. Or you will discover a world you never though possible. I'm not really into cars but I am into my landy. The extended family is like no other, no matter what country your in. The help, hospitality, camaraderie, laughs and knowledge is amazing. With most of it being based on "getting out there". What works, what does't, and what to expect when you go. You will develop a hard to explain bond with this iconic car that makes you laugh, makes your cry, but always delivers.

They took an excellent vehicle and Blinged it out. About as useful and gold covered front teeth. But to each his own.

So it's shinny. I don't see much "bling" though aside from the 20" wheels which are at least black and not chrome!

Put in some taller springs, factory 16" wheels, let it get a little dusty and it would be pretty sweet.

Closest affordable thing to this in the US is a Mercedes G500

x2, all they need is a set of 255 85 16 tires mounted on ANR1534 wheels and quit washing it. No more mall crawler label.
